SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Duck's beak.

That's what the front end reminds me of! Why is the bonnet so long compared to the rest of the car? Ugly! The current generation was a lot better.

But boy-o-boy, those interiors are a class apart!

After trying to take design elements from Audi and Mercedes in the past, looks like they are now heading to BMW way. This time even in interiors department.

They are not European at all, doesn't matter how hard they try to become that.

Its actually funny how they have such large tail lights and still couldn't find space for two reverse lights and two rear fog lamps!

Even the indicators doesn't seem to be big enough to be clearly visible unless the guy behind is really paying attention.

Looking at the gear knob in the interior pic . I think the six gear is gone if the pic taken is of diesel variant.

It shows VTVT petrol in exterior photo and tachometer is marked to 6500rpm.

Love the look of the new i20. Especially the interiors, they look as if they are from a few segments above. I just hope Hyundai got the suspension right.

Spot on! It really looks like one, with that wide headunit, narrow and long AC vents, ACC module etc.

Hyundai has retained the blue fonts, they should have gone white this time though. Also, good to see that tacky chrome gear knob done away with.

The rear wiper looks exactly like the one in Swift.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Anyone notice that the top of dash is also beige! Not full top but partially beige on top of dash. This may cause a problem with reflections.

Secondly, this car looks huge and seems to have everything in size XL. From the huge front grill, headlights to long bonnet, massive doors and wide stance. Same on the interiors, all the switchgear/buttons look like XXL size. Look at the start/stop button and the climate control switches.

Hyundai have gone to town on this car. The new facelifted Polo and the new Punto suddenly find themselves looking outdated within a month of launch.

Pre booking before the launch starts today. Autocar seems to think this will be called 'elite' i20. Laugh all the way to the bank Hyundai. Laugh!

I hope 6 airbags are back this time.

Not sure if I agree with you on this. I find the Polo and the Punto both far more classier looking than this. This seems to have been overdesigned and side profile is spoilt by the blackened c-pillar.
Just read the above tweet post.... 'Elite' i20... meh! ugh!

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

There's something off about that nose. It looks a bit shaved and chopped, a la the Figo and EcoSport. Although the overhang looks long from some angles, it seems to end abruptly. Maybe that's because this new i20 is a shade longer than 4000 mm?

Nevertheless, it's a great looking car inside out! Good job Hyundai, kudos!

Hyundai needs to plonk a diesel automatic like Tata else they will miss a trick here.

Re: SCOOP Pics! Next-gen 2014 Hyundai i20 spotted testing in India

Is it confirmed that the 1.2ltr engine for manual and 1.4 ltr for AT will carry over to this new i20? If so that is a little disappointing, the general feedback ( and my personal experience) is that the petrol i20 is not a great performer and struggles under heavy load. It would have been good if they made the 1.4 standard for the petrol.

I also assume they would carry over the same 4 speed AT. Again I wish they used the opportunity to bring in a fresh AT gear box to differentiate it from the grand i10 and xcent. Recently read that the Russian Verna has been refreshed with a new 6 speed AT box. That would have been perfect for a premium hatch like i20.

Just got this news.

Hyundai is going to launch the facelifted i20 on the 11th August. The new i20 will be called 'Elite i20'. Hyundai is planning to sell both versions in parallel for a while.
