True, but more to the point would be how much torque it makes and at what rpm.

A flat, relatively high torque curve would be much more useful in real world conditions.

Team-BHP scoops 2014 Tata Nano petrol facelift

Link to News Section

Tata Motors is doing all it can to turn around the slow selling Nano. The recent steps taken by the Indian car and utility maker include the launches of the 2013 version of the Nano and the CNG-petrol dual fuel version of the world's least priced car. Early next year, the Nano is likely to get yet another facelift what with a new version spotted testing on roads in and around Tata Motors' Pimpri factory, off Pune.

Team-BHP's spy photographers have snapped up the facelifted, petrol engined Nano, a car whose styling seems to be inspired by the yet-to-be-launched diesel engined model. The Nano Diesel, according to Tata Motors' managing director, Mr Karl Slym, will be launched before March 2014. The 2014 version of the petrol engined Nano, as will be the case of the diesel variant, will get a slew of features that have been added based on customer feedback.

The feature additions on the 2014 Nano petrol and diesel models are likely to include:
  • Open-able hatch lid
  • New exhaust
  • Restyled front and rear bumpers

Tata Motors has also been mulling over the addition of a power steering to the Nano, a feature that remains unconfirmed for now. With the diesel engined Nano to get heavier than the petrol engined model, the addition of a power steering to the Nano's options list in 2014 seems likely. Team-BHP sources have also revealed that a bigger engined Nano is being readied up at Tata Motors' Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Pimpri, off Pune. The petrol Nano with a larger engine is likely to hit the testing circuit in the coming months.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

No matter what Tata's do, unless they focus on the Quality, they will not be able to come up in the market. Gone are the days, when customers used to accept whatever the manufacturer tried selling to them.

They learn't it the hard way in the CV market, when Volvo trashed them left, right and center. However, having learned the hard way, yet they fail to improve.

No wonder, Tata Indica has been rated in America as the World's Worst Car. I hope they put their act together, before its too late for them.

Get facts right @sawnilrules, except the first para all others are grossly incorrect.

Yes Volvo has thrashed them in higher capacity trucking business, but, Tata & AL (both are equally good/bad) still have good grip in this sector courtesy the cost advantage they have.

The Indica has never been launched in America & thus lablled the worst car there. In fact, it was the Indica V2 that was launched as the City Rover in UK & rated worst car by experts (but that was before the Chinese brands selling there ).

The situation at Tata is bad, definitely, but wrong facts, from educated & informed ones, can twist the whole story to a new level.

Hope you are not offended with my reasoning.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

I think the article being referred to is this - http://blog.caranddriver.com/crapcan...d-or-are-they/

While Tata definitely has found it difficult in the passenger car segment, in the commercial segment, its just luxury buses (a very small % of the market) where they havent been really successful. In every other commercial segment, they have seen success and compete with the best in the world. I don't believe the PRIMA is inferior to a MB or Volvo product sold in India...

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

What ever Tata Motors do to lift the sales of Nano, it's not going to make sudden spurt in sales. In the beginning they tried to project Nano as Rs.1 lakh car but the strategy backfired. Now its going to take time to shed that image. Anyways I sincerely hope that Nano will do better in coming future.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

I definitely looks more butch than the 2013 model.Especially the bumpers and the wheel arches. Please let the front bumpers be Europa inspired then it will look killer in front too. Always thought rear of nano was more sporty than some of the cars from upper segments too. I like the direction TATA is finally headed. If all goes well might have a nano in my garage by next year!

As a matter of fact it does look like the Europa update: (See the distance between the edge of the front bumper and the tire)

As Tata tries to shed the 1-lakh image for the Nano, it ought to release another model with a different name based on the same platform. Not like the StingRay - people can clearly tell that it is still a WagonR. Perhaps a private vehicle variant of the Tata Magic Iris:
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/iipcache/149236.jpg

BTW, The Tata Nano in the picture seems pretty decent from the side and I'm sure the rear would be good too. However, I've always thought the Tata Nano and the Zen Estilo are in serious need of some design on the front. Word on the streets is that the Estilo has been discontinued, so that's one less eye sore. A possible change to the Tata Nano would be to use Volkswagen Beetle-like lights and bonnet (at the risk of being called a copycat car) or use the design of the cars from the old computer game Syndicate but perhaps that would be too Indica-like.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

I think a major factor which will improve the looks of Nano is to fit it with larger wheels like those on the Europa version. It will make the car look substantial and not like a shopping trolley!!

Aftermarket fitting of alloys will further enhance the overall appeal of the Nano. Hope Tata Motors takes this into consideration.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

I hope things improve at TATA, but the problem is, they are also "hoping" I guess! It would work out better for them, if some actions are taken today as well instead of just pinning the hopes on upcoming models.

In the time it took for TATA dealers to arrange a test drive (sorry, try to arrange one, haven't got one yet), Mahindra actually delivered the car.

And this is not just one dealer, but multiple across NCR - Rama, Concorde (didn't even bother with a call back), HIM, Raghuvanshi. Though Rama was better than others in terms of followups.

To me this car looks longer then the NANO. Is it the Europa getting ready for production?

Next generation Tata Indica Vista (Falcon4) spied.

With additions like projector headlamps and a possible inclusion of a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol unit, it's likely to be positioned above the current Indica Vista.

The car is likely to get a redesigned front and rear end, with new headlamps (projectors on top variant) and exclusion of Tata's X-mas tree tail-lamp pattern. It gets new bumpers and a new grille design too. In the engines department, the FIAT-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine will do its duty, apart from a new 1.2-litre Turbo petrol engine, which will be developed in-house
