There's a picture showing a muddy way; so an offroader?
Another picture is of a donut? So a fast car a.k.a. the Falcon?

zigwheels have reported sighting of the Manza CS... & IMO that it looks slightly better proportioned as compared to Dzire. Link to their report:

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

We always talk about A.S.S of Tata. As we all know, In addition to introducing facelifts TM is actively working on improving the A.S.S. I happened to read about the initiative from GM in North America; Engineers are sent to dealership to understand and study the issues faced by the customer. I wish TML also do some thing similar.
Quote:
"Whether it's service problems or just customers who don't know how something works, these engineers will see our vehicles in the real world and be able to channel that back into their work," GM North America President Mark Reuss said in an interview. "They'll appreciate how hard and involved the sales and service process is on the ground." The program is part of a broader push by GM to improve quality and customer satisfaction. For instance, GM has hired specialists from Apple and other tech companies to help dealerships solve customers' infotainment headaches.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

Came across these three videos. I think something is happening on 03 Feb 2014.

Honestly, I am impressed with the videos and hope there is something really worth this hype!

The videos point to three aspects - Design, Performance & Connectivity. But if Revotron 1.2 is the "performance" aspect, I guess it's better to keep the excitement in check.

These videos have been shared by an account called "TATAMotorsF5"! Have been thinking what this F5 stands for and just struck me, it could be the Falcon 5 ??

In the performance video, they do show a sedan silhouette - so it could be.

And that sedan silhouette looks just like a smaller manza to me. I hope the design is really something very new.

Re: Tata Motors announces Horizonext with 8 simultaneous facelift launches

Is something planned for the Xenon XT under the horizonext strategy? I was looking to take a high risk decision of buying a xenon 4x4, but would wait till autoexpo 2014 to check if something is unveiled there. Members input w.r.t to upgrades to xenon in near future would be highly appreciated.

If not, take a look and you will know what a personal car alone or taxi alone segment mean as you suggest.

Toyota sold an outdated Qualis to lay the financial foundation of their works in India. We Indians lapped up the bread box willingly. Do you know its vintage, friend ? The same engine in CRDi avtar powers the Innova today. Ditto for the Sumo. So where's the problem ?

Have you seen the new Innova upgrade ? Can you compare it with the Safari to Storme upgrade ?

I see no point in introducing new models and phasing them out in a couple of years to keep the cash registers ringing. In a market like ours, what is needed is a robust and well engineered product that does not cost a bomb and can be maintained reliably within the country. In short, be Indian, buy Indian.
For starters, comparing the two "T"s isn't even an argument. Lets put some facts -
1) The indica was launched around 1997 or 98, so selling a 17 year old car now is just not progress. Ideally they should have stopped producing the car years ago. When companies are releasing newer versions{not facelifts} in an average of 5 years, Tata has no reason to be selling a 17 year old car.
2) I do not know the break up of Taxi vs personal use for the Innova, but I'm very sure that the ratio is not as skewed as in the case of Indica's taxi vs private car owners for the last 2-3 years.
3) Another classic example, when the new dzire was launched in 2012, the earlier one was branded as "dzire tour" and sold only the fleet operators. In spite of the dzire commanding huge numbers at that time, Maruti did this just to ensure that the new dzire found more private owners and to dispose of the existing inventory. Why cannot Tata do the same? There is a cheaper TDI engine in the Vista as well, so what stops them from selling that as the entry level vista { in any case they are selling cars with discounts} and sell the old indica only to the fleet owners?
4) Yes, the innova is a popular taxi too. But it costs almost thrice as much as the Indica and the customer perception is very different to the innova. And I do not know the exact launch year of the innova, but I'm sure it's not more than 10 years. And at the time of launch I think it was actually way ahead in terms of what was available in the indian market. And till today it does not have any serious competition. So Toyota has not bothered with an all new model.
But in the hatch back segment there has been just too much action and even a super successful car like the swift was given a complete overhaul in 6 years.
And lastly, for a hatch back buyer a car like the innova is still aspirational, even if its widely used as a taxi. And for a buyer who wants a pure comfortable MUV, there is no other choice in the 12-15 lakh segment and hence even people who can afford 15-17 lakhs end up buying the innova since there is no option and it doesnt matter that its a taxi.
But for a hatchback buyer, they look at something that is very aspirational and for them buying a hatch back which is the most widely used taxi is a turn off. And that doesn just apply to the indica, just look at the Logan as well. Issues of Mahindra-renault apart, it quickly became a taxi favorite, lost out to the dzire, amaze etc. Now hardly any private buyers opt for the logan.
On the Safari, yes its an all new car, but it just looks like a facelift. You may say its an evolution, but that just doesnt cut it considering the competition like XUV5OO and other upcoming launches.
As products i think the vista, manza, safari storme are not bad, re-looking at the design language and perception will go a long way in bettering sales numbers.

I read somewhere that Tata is planning a SUV based on the Xenon platform, but it wouldn't be launched before a couple of years.
PS: Cannot verify the news or source.

By the way, did I miss the post that Falcon 4 might be called Bolt (according to Mr. Hormazd Sorabjee, editor of Autocar India)? Or we didn't discuss about it at all? I have my doubts on his claim, as TML in its website is branding it as F4.

^^ I just don't understand why Tata doesn't make SUV which will be like Duster based on the Xenon platform which is readily available with them. Are they just lazy? Are they so blind that they can't see the success of Duster for last 2 years? Or their people just don't want to improve at all?

Just look at this picture below. Tata has such thing ready with them. It has very cool butch looks. SUV based on this will look really cool. They just have to invest few crore to make SUV from this. If Tata can price it right with some good interiors like Manza, i am sure it can sell in good numbers. Why Tata? Why? Just do it ... Go for it.

Duster is a monocoque while the Xenon platform is a ladder-on-frame. Even if TATA makes an SUV based on Xenon (to the size of Duster), it will still NOT make a cut due to

1. More weight
2. Less FE
3. Worser driving dynamics
4. Engine development issues

So TATA is NOT being lazy but sensible. Am NOT sure you missed the news about TATA Jump ??

I agree, but Tata can do some R&D for sure. They can reduce the weight little bit. It may not be having same dynamics as Duster, but can be made in the acceptable range. After all Not all people buy SUV for driving dynamics, but many buy it just for looks ! Just for road presence ! To Use it like a lifestyle vehicle. Also I am sure they can use their proven 2.2 Liter engine which is available in Safari storm, it is quite proven engine with not so bad FE. Also it will have advantage of more power over others like Duster, EcoSport.

I read the news on Jump, but not sure what it will be like. I guess its a smaller SUV based on Vista platform. So both are in different leagues all together.

Sorry, but from a business point of view, none of your arguments would make a cut for ANY manufacturer. Reasons :

The Xenon platform just can't be light as a monocoque or fuel efficient. Also Jump is a compact SUV like Duster. Jump will be based on Vista platform (like Duster on Logan platform). Using the 2.2L will NOT give any advantage to TATA, but would put them on the backfoot in terms of cost / tax benefits. If "looks" are the primary reason why you prefer the Xenon platform, then it's all upto the designers to give one. They could very well design one if they have talent and budget.

I any day would prefer a fuel efficient, Fun-To-Drive, monocoque compact SUV than a ladder-frame one. But then for a full size SUV, a ladder frame with a proper 4WD would make sense.

Is n't Sumo Grande is based on the same platform as Xenon? For those who need a bigger SUV, probably a better looking Grande with more feature comfort will be the answer.
