If they ramp up their sales & service outlets (that is if they are actually interested in selling it) it should do 500+ units everyday. Its big, butch & handsome. Something which ticked for the Endeavor (it was a rage at its time) and now for the Fortuner.

It should do well, will provide an alternative to the Fortuner & will be reliable as well because of the Isuzu badge.

I saw it passing by my house a few weeks back, the thing I liked the most about it was that it was really low, did not need a step to get into, very surprising that its getting spotted on all the back roads, wonder if Isuzu is still testing it

There is a showroom of Isuzu open very close to where I live and it did have the SUV on display. The sales person seemed knowledgeable. However everything else was disappointing (including the sales person).

Their test vehicle had gone out to someone's place for a test drive. I left behind my name and number and it has been 2 weeks i have not heard back from them. The sales person seemed so disinterested and i had to repeatedly keep asking him to talk to me about this vehicle.

The vehicle per say looked monstrous. The design however looked way outdated compared to the the fortuner. Interiors were just about ok. Did not have the wow factor as i got in. Headlights looked small given the size of the vehicle. Could not check its effectiveness. It had acres and acres of space. However the floor was way too high for a comfortable seating experience. Specifically the third row felt like i was sitting on the floor. With all sets up, it did have sufficient boot space. One other thing, the boot lid was quite heavy. Gives you a sense of safety in the event of a frontal collision.

Overall it looked quite imposing but did not look like the sales folks were too keen on selling it.

Isuzu D-Max launched at INR 6.81 lakh. Seeing the specifications on paper, it looks a good capable vehicle, aimed directly at Mahindra pickups. We know that ISUZU is as reliable as any other Japanese company, but will rural India accept it? If they don't, sales of mahindra UVs are not going to take a hit now.

Re: Official: Isuzu to build MU-7 and D-Max at HM's Chennai Plant Edit: Launched @ Rs

I find the pricing ridiculous. One one hand the pick up costs 5.99 lakhs and on the other hand the MU7 costs 22 L.

Clearly the strategy is on the Pickup truck. The SUV is just to get aspirational value for the pickup

The pricing is due to the fact that on MU7, the customs duty is about 60% on C.K.D. kit, IIRC, where as on the pick up, the customs is about 8-10% only as it comes in commercial vehicle category , being imported in c.k.d. kits from Thailand , with whom India has a free trade agreement treaty.

However, i was really looking forward to buying a twin cab isuzu at about 12-13 lacs onroad.

Still Waiting...!

Local buying; then what are the options? Not many other than the ones that powered HM's Ambassadors.

The way I see it, they may be looking at the engine from Tavera which is powered by ICML Rhino's engine. Good engine/bad car, hence never sold in big numbers.
