If I could only own ONE car...

Here's the situation, hypothetical though it may be...

If you had to do your own driving, parking, etc every day of your life (aka no chauffeurs) and you could only have one car that you had to use every time you needed to get about (aka no borrowing family members' small car to go to the shops) be it in town, or the highway...which car would you have?

The car must be offered for sale in India officially.

I think I would want something small yet fast and fun with an overall level of practicality. I think I'd go with a Countryman S!

If I could have only 1 car (Money no bar), it would have been the Lancer Evo X.

Sedan, family car, Japanese reliability, awesome looks and the performance stories came straight out of legends. Sadly it has been discontinued from the market few days back.

Money no bar then, E92 M3 (either coupe or saloon; my choice would have been coupe though) by far the best car to be built ever.

For a reasonable money, I think I would be happy to have a Skoda Laura vRS...

re: If I could only own ONE car...

This is a tough nut to crack; I keep asking myself this question becuase I just moved and need to buy a vehicle. The city and Hwy (and soft road) requirements are at odds; what works for one will not for the other. In an ideal situation, I'd have two - a small automatic runabout for the city and a tourer/soft-roader for Hwy and vacations. This brings up the issues of higher initial investment, insurance and maintenance for 2 vehicles and parking problems. My last vehicle was a compromise - a Baleno, but it was a bear to use within the city. I see no other option than a compromise in the requirements.

If some wise soul has a better idea, I'm all ears!

Ditto here. Or the Subaru WRX.

Although the original post mentions that "The car must be offered for sale in India officially", most of the responses are listing cars which are not sold here.

Guys, re-post your opinions please.

Audi A8 L W12. Period.

A car almost floating up in the ether.

1. Enough Torque to tow continents.
2. Good enough handling.
3. Four door sedan.
4. Creature comforts
5. A wolf in sheep's clothing.
6. Ride height adjustable so can do both city and highway .
8. Tip tronic. Auto in city and paddle shift on highway.
9. Can smoke some supercars.
10. Enough safety tech with out of world things like top view reversing camera, headlamp adjust, infrared cams.

I would go with the Toyota Fortuner Automatic. Here are my reasons-

1. Japanese reliability
2. Solidly built
3. Perfect for highways - can carry family + luggage in comfort
4. Even in city, it would be a boon owing to the AT box.

re: If I could only own ONE car...

I'd choose the Skoda Octavia Combi VRS, hands down.

Looks? - Check
Practicality? - Check
Can carry family of 4 + dog and luggage? - Check
Fold down the rear seats and you have this super awesome camping machine!
Performance? - Haha!

With a cut down in a couple of not-so-important expenses, one could actually afford to run it too! Man, am I in love with this car!

Range Rover Evoque !

I cannot see any vehicle below or above this beauty. I have been awestruck since I first saw this 'babe' on the Top Gear show.

OHC Type 2 Vtec any day, but sadly that's not available anymore. So i'll get the Civic instead.

re: If I could only own ONE car...

For me it would be none other than a White Cayenne Turbo S.
The fastest SUV around, Porsche DNA, sports-car like handling and has enough bling upto my liking, just the adequate amount.

750Nm of Torque and a superb highway presence what else does one need(or atleast I need )
Being an SUV, it automatically garners more respect from rickshaws and taxis and they make it sure not to mess with such SUV owners!

re: If I could only own ONE car...

Looking at the posts above, my post will be mundane!
My need is a versatile car which is compact enough to be able to navigate through traffic and easy to park, which being spacious enough to seat 4 and have easy entry/exit. I prefer a manual at this point and I am not a fan of SUV/soft roaders. My Jazz pretty much fits the need. Merc B-Class could be a perfect upgrade from Jazz, but I would really like to have a 1 series or A Class.
