2013 Audi RS5 Coupe launched in India

Link to News Section

Audi India has launched the RS5 high performance coupe, a direct competitor to the likes of the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG and the BMW M3 models. The 2013 Audi RS5 coupe is priced at 96.81 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. Imported into India as a completely built unit (CBU), the RS5 represents the first of the twin, high performance car launches from Audi India.

The car will be sold across all Audi showrooms in the country. A little over a week from now, on the 12th of July, Audi India will launch the S6 high performance sports-luxury sedan at the Buddh International Circuit, off Delhi. The Audi RS5 coupe is based on the A5 saloon, albeit with different styling bits and a powerful 4.2 liter V8 engine.

Borrowed from the Audi R8, the 4.2 liter-V8 direct injection petrol engine outputs 450 Bhp of peak power at 8,250 rpm and 430 Nm of peak torque available in a rev-band between 4,000-6,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a 7 speed dual clutch DSG gearbox that drives all four wheels of the RS5 through the trademark Quattro all wheel drive system. Paddle shifters are standard fare.

Claimed performance is impressive to say the least, what with a 0-100 Kph sprint coming up in 4.5 seconds while top speed is rated at an electronically limited 250 Kph, which can be raised to 280 Kph upon request. Notably, the engine and transmission package aren't new items on the 2013 Audi RS5. What's actually new is the electro-mechanical steering and the styling of the car.

The car gets a revised front end, with the styling now mirroring the new family face of Audi, replete with wedge-shaped xenon headlamps, LED day time running lights and beveled surfaces for the Bulgarian Beard front grille. At the rear, the tail lamps and bumper get a redesign.

On the inside, the 2013 RS5 gets a new 3 spoke-leather wrapped, multi-function steering wheel. The center console and the fascia for the instrumentation console get a glossy black finish while the ignition key and steering column stalks have been revised.

On the suspension and braking front, Audi offers optional extras in the form of a dynamic ride control (damping package) for the sport suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes with six piston calipers. The car also gets adaptive cruise control, dynamic steering and a sport differential as the other optional items.

Re: 2013 Audi RS5 Coupe launched in India

So what does the RS5 currently compete with in India? I am sure no BMW M3 available as of now.

So?
The only somewhat direct competitor would be what? The Cayman?

Re: 2013 Audi RS5 Coupe launched in India

96.5 lakhs? How is that possibly justifiable?
Even the C63 AMG costs 98 OTR!

This pricing is ridiculous. Looks like they've taken a cue from the pricing of the Porsche's in India.

No, no. You can't compare the Cayman and the RS5.
It's closest competitor would be the C63 AMG.
Though they've launched it at a price which doesn't compete with anything.

96.5 lacs??? This is way overpriced, IMO. One of my friend here in USA bought RS5 just a little while ago for 80k USD for fully loaded. This is overpriced by AUDI. But again, don't think Audi is looking for numbers for this gorgeous coupe.

Why does the car have 1 fog lamp, on the left side. Check the first pic, fogs are present only on the left chin of the bumper. Right side has nothing.

One of the most practical sports cars out there in India today. Just the chink in the armour is its pricing.
Otherwise, it has everything from power to looks to practicality.

It is not the fog lamp sir.
If I am not wrong then it's the camera which is used in those "intelligent driving aids" which see the road conditions ahead and may help in avoiding collisions, by means of pre-emptive braking.
I might be wrong here, please correct me if so and throw light on what it actually is.

I have seen it many times on the 7 series' too.

Quite possible! As far as I know 2013 Mercs place their cameras on the windscreen, near or within the rear view mirror mount (Yes, Cameras, as in 2 of them. They have stereoscopic vision, or in layman's terms, car watch the road in three dee!).

That isn't a fog lamp. Those are sensors for the adaptive cruise control that is optional.

This is a mild facelift to give the RS5 the new Audi family's brand identify look with the restyled LED treatment.

Compared to the 2012 version the RS5 has the following changes:
1. Restyled tailamps and headlamps. (Similar to the A4/S4)
2. 20 inch alloys (Bad move for our roads, the 19inch in the 2012 RS5 already make the ride stiff thanks to it's 35 profile.. new 20inch have 30 profile!!)
3. New steerings with the round center horn.(Similar to the S4)

ACI claims that the sports exhaust is now standard but I doubt it from the pics of the launch car it still has the regular exhaust. The sports exhaust is optional and has black oval tips instead of silvers ones. It is a $1000 option and is slightly louder than the regular exhaust which is already loud when the flaps are opened in dynamic mode.

Re: 2013 Audi RS5 Coupe launched in India

The first generation RS5 has been discontinued internationally (It is not listed on any Audi website)

Unfortunately, the next generation will not be as pure as the NA V8 this first generation had. Like the M3/4, Audi too is confirmed to down size and turbo charge to a V6 turbo engine. There is a possibility of a 4 door variant too, which would be a bad move IMO, they should stick to just the coupe and leave the 4 door for the S5.

If a sedan version is coming out, clearly they just want a product to directly compete with the M3/C63AMGS.

As for leaving the sedan to the S5, internationally the S4 is still sold as far as I know and I've already seen some leaked images of the new generation S4 that is being tested. But even if an S4/S5 are released, it can only be a competitor to the BMW 340i/Merc C450.
