Škoda launches Limited-Ed Rapid Leisure. *Update, now Ultima*

Škoda Auto India, a subsidiary of it's parent group VW, has launched a limited edition rapid to boost Rapid's dwindling sales (just 1,142 units dispatched as of June 2013) known as Rapid Leisure.

This limited edition is available on both petrol and diesel variants of Rapid, with both Manual (both Petrol and Diesel) and Auto transmission (petrol-only) options. The Rapid Leisure comes with a portable screen that has navigation system and also doubles up as a display for the reversing camera. So, what do you get in the Leisure edition:
  • Sat-nav with a reverse camera
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • 15-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Leatherette seat covers
  • 'Leisure' badging

Škoda Auto India has pegged the Rapid Leisure at ₹9.06 lakhs. Click here for the source.

Team-BHP's Škoda Rapid's review can be found here.

Keep revvin'

First "Plus", then "Prestige", then "Leisure". What is Skoda upto? Cant they concentrate on introducing a Fabia successor/ Eco sport competitor rather than rebadging and cosmetic makeovers.

Just trying to push the car and get the sales numbers.

They should so something under the car and substantial to attract customers.

Instead of badging their cars why don't they concentrate on the A.S.S?! Many customers are running listening to the horror stories of the A.S.S.

Cheers,
Anurag.

Decent set of upgrades to the Rapid. This variant is now exactly the same as a Vento Highline. Features added are those that were in the Vento Highline already.

I feel this is the last hurrah before the facelifted one is launched with the new Skoda logos and small nip and tuck that another member Nicky mentioned in another thread.

You forget the steering controls.

And I believe this is the same navigation system that VW is/was offering. Rest of the "additions" are just accessories that Skoda (like VW earlier) is offering within the ex-showroom price. Interesting to note they are coping each other making both the cars more and more identical.

One more limited edition , i was thinking that they would come out with the projector etc as stated by some one in official Rapid thread. So these changed are implemented on Ambition?

The elegance model is still priced higher than this but does it carry all this in addition to elegance features like ACC and Airbags or its only for ambition variants with one airbag.

Skoda needs to do something about Rapid, its sales are slipping fast and it would slip into the 3 figure mark, its a good VFM proposition and a good car but now the price is very close to Vento highline, with the kind of 0% offers etc VW is offering, people are shelling out more for the vento for a little upmarket interiors and the VW badge.

A good for nothing move by Skoda. There is nothing to talk about of these additions made to the car.

- One thing that can work for them is improved behaviour of their dealers and a better aftersale service.

- A matrix of protocols and procedures to escalate issues to Skoda when the dealership is unable to resolve them.

- Better and quick availability of parts and at-par pricing of spares as compared to Japanese & Korean manufacturers.

Else they will keep on operating at these numbers.

Still a much better Limited Edition than the rubbish that comes out of Maruti or Toyota if you ask me

Quoting your post, but not targeting it, so please don't take any offence, but I would like to ask why? Because Skoda is a premium manufacturer or we are just Maruti bashers, come what may?
And how much the premium is being charged by Skoda for this limited edition ,the important question which has been left out?

No offence taken Saket
(You're entitled to have your own opinion)

I'd rather have
  • Sat-nav with a reverse camera
  • Rear Parking Sensors
  • 15-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Leatherette seat covers

than tacky body graphics (Maruti) or chrome (Toyota)

No information on the new price of the limited edition? Would be worth comparing the pricing against the offerings too.

Appreciate your understanding . Just have a feeling that we are soft hearted towards premium car manufacturers and end up bashing the VFM brands.

Saket

  • Sat-nav with a reverse camera

  • 15-Inch Alloy Wheels
  • Leatherette seat covers
  • 'Leisure' badging

Every single one of this is available as aftermarket fitments except the leisure badge which am sure does not hold as much value as an L&K.

So why would one go for this limited edition? Well, because of warranty issues I presume?

The pricing I've got is
  • 1.6 MPI manual – Rs. 7,79,352 ex
  • 1.6 MPI automatic – Rs. 8,79,625 ex
  • 1.6 TDI manual – Rs. 9,06,926 ex

I, for one have a soft corner towards Indian manufactures (Tata, Maruti et al) & not vice versa

Thanks for the info man, but would appreciate if you or anyone could post the increase in price for a straight forward comparison.

Everyone knows why these limited editions are rolled out and how much of value are the additional features adding to the original product. But pasting stickers and using chrome effects and calling it limited editions looks way too crude in my opinion.
