SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

Mod Note: The Skoda Superb Official Review has been uploaded at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the review thread. Thanks

SCOOP: The 2014 Skoda Superb facelift was revealed on April 3rd this year and production of the 2014 Superb began only on May 31. And yet here it is: This is the first image of the Superb facelift caught on Indian soil.
Clicked by Autocar India reader Sujay Soman, Skoda India has not camouflaged the car, only the logos and the badge is covered.

The rear of the Superb has been updated quite a lot. It gets LED taillights of a different design, not to mention that the entire bootlid is different. Where the number plate of the old Superb was housed on the rear bumper, it is moved up to the bootlid on the refreshed model.
At the front, the new Superb will feature a differently styled headlamp and front bumper. The hood features a sheet metal change to carry Skoda’s new logo.

On the inside, there are a few updates to speak about. Firstly, the steering wheel is available in a total of nine new variations. It is similar to that of the 2013 Skoda Octavia.

A total of nine new fabrics and patterns have been introduced on the new car while the top of the range L&K variant gets a brown-ivory interior color combination.
It was earlier reported that the facelifted Superb would be introduced in the country come Auto Expo 2014. However, after seeing this spyshot, we think that date may be even closer.

I like the existing rear design very much. With this change they have changed one of the best looking designs on Indian roads.
Now it looks like just another car

+1!!
I absolutely love how the current Superb looks from the rear. It may be that there are a lot of them out here, but it still stands out on the roads and begs for heads to turn.

The front side of the new one is quite good; there's not much difference from the old one.

I wonder why some Volkswagen group cars such as Jetta and now Superb are moving towards Audi'sh kind of tail lamp assemblies. This one looks bad at first glance at least.

In contrast, the Passat has a nice rear-end tail lamp assembly, one of the better ones that I have seen in recent times.

Does any one have any idea as to when is it going to launch? Year end or early next year?

It is expected that the facelifted Superb will come to India in late 2013 or early 2014.

I hope they change the alloys! The current ones have been there for too long. A superb with a good set of alloys looks a lot better. However they should stick to 16inchers as the ride quality is already pretty stiff.

Re: SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

This was expected. They do need to get the new Superb in a hurry to maintain their lead in that segment as with the New Octavia coming in there would be a lot of cross shopping at the cost of the Superb till the new one comes in. This sure should set the benchmark for the segment and pretty much make the Accord and Passat also ran vehicles once it is here.

Re: SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

Totally agree with you on that , the existing design is "superb" and one of the most easily identifiable ones on the road today , this is a bit plain Jane.

Re: SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

There's probably a reason why all VAG cars have started looking the same- Family Look!

Skoda did it before. The old Octavia, the old Laura and the old Superb; all looked the same, save the length of the cars.
Sames the case with the VW cars now- Vento, Jetta and Passat.

Now, with the all new models from Skoda, they have started looking similar again. At least, as far as the rear is concerned.
The boot of the Rapid, the Octavia and now, the Superb all look the same!

Re: SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

Why is the VW group hell bent on making all these cars so A4ish? The superb is a chauffeur driven car and not a fun to drive car that a college kid will want. The current generation looks match the USP of the car so much more than this new "wannabe A4" kind of design.

Re: SCOOP! Skoda Superb facelift caught on test

The 2014 Skoda Superb facelift will be launched on 11th January, as scooped exclusively by CarToq.

Quote:
The Skoda Superb’s facelifted version will be launched in India on the 11th of January, 2014, at a grand event in one of Delhi’s top hotels. A flagship model for Brand Skoda globally, the launch of the facelifted Superb in India is likely to happen amid a dose of grandeur.

The facelifted Superb will also be the star attraction at Skoda India’s Auto Expo presence next month.
The notable changes for the 2014 facelift are: a revised front bumper, a reprofiled bonnet with integrated Skoda logo, new headlamps, a revised LED tail lamp design, a reprofiled boot lid with integrated number plate, a new steering wheel, all-new colours on the interiors and also a new seat fabric.

Apart from these visual changes, the car remains unchanged on the mechanical front. The 2014 Superb facelift could carry a slight premium in prices over the existing Superb's pricing.

The teaser pictures are released in the official Twitter account of Skoda India. In the coming up week, Skoda India will conduct the media drive for the auto journalist. Skoda Superb Facelift made its global launch last year.

Quote:
Skoda Superb facelift gets a comprehensive design update. In the front, Skoda has given new bumper with LED daytime running lights for the headlamps. On the side, the only update is the new alloy wheel pattern. The rear is completely new as the number plate is now placed on the boot instead on the bumper from the previous version. Skoda has also given an all new LED tail lamp and the overall look like the Audi A4.
