Re: Second generation Chevrolet Beat (Spark, internationally) coming in 2015

The next-generation Chevrolet Beat will be launched by GM India by 2017, according to ACI.

The existing Beat will be extensively re-designed, with an all-new exterior and interior, and a lot of "bits and pieces" of the new 2016 Spark will be carried over to the new "Indian-ised" Beat.

Quote:
The next-generation Chevrolet Beat for the Indian market is likely to be a heavily upgraded version of the current Beat with extensive exterior and interior changes. GM India has ruled out the launch of the newly launched 2016 Chevrolet Spark (née Beat), as the new M2 platform on which it is based is proving too costly for the Indian market.

The current Beat’s M300 platform will form the base for the next-gen model from GM India, “but it will take lots of bits and pieces from the new Spark” according to a source, hinting that the new infotainment with the large 7-inch touchscreen will be carried over.

The new Spark gets a 1.4-litre all-aluminium engine that is likely to be carried over to the next-gen Beat, albeit downsized to 1.2 litres to avail of the small car excise benefits offered in India. The 1-litre SDE diesel, which is unique to the Indian market, will also power the next Beat.

More news on the India-specific next-gen Beat

We already know that the next-generation of the Beat is coming to India in 2017. Now a media report reveals more information about that car.

The new Beat is going to be based on the same M300 platform as the current Beat. The all new M2 platform on which the recently unveiled Spark is built isn't turning out to be feasible for the Indian market. The report suggests that the new Beat will share parts with the new Spark and there is a possibility of a 7" touchscreen system to find its way in the Indian Beat too.

Unlike the current 1.2 litre, the new Beat might be launched with a 1 litre, 3-cylinder petrol motor in India. This motor is based on the 1.4 litre, Ecotec unit from the new Spark. A 1 litre SDE diesel motor will also power the Beat.

Re: Second generation Chevrolet Beat (Spark, internationally) coming in 2015

GM India teases the new Beat at the ongoing SIAM convention in Delhi.

GM has already announced that the new-gen Beat won't be coming to India, but instead an India-specific version of the Beat will be derived from it. This silhouette of the car confirms it, with differently-styled headlamps and foglamps, protruding tail lamp section and the absence of roof rails.

The all-new Beat is scheduled to hit showrooms sometime in 2017.

Somehow it seems to remind me of the Grand i10. It has lost the character and quirky yet musculat styling of the Beat.

Re: Second generation Chevrolet Beat (Spark, internationally) coming in 2015

The most futuristic looking Beat, now trimmed down to look like an ordinary other car.
Those who went on to buy Beat in the initial days of its launch in India, despite GM's sparse A.S.S network, will now think again.
To me, this new design looks like, the old design was photoshopped to remove the most striking curves, to make it appear more neutral.
Look at those interiors!! Can we really compare the dashboard design to the previous gen, and call it an improvement? The instrument cluster of the previous gen looked absolutely funky, whereas this one is absolutely neutral, and looks like any other car.
It seriously looks like the designers of SAIL hatchback wanted to improve the Beat, to add to the de-growth.
(Note: All the above comments are based on the photographs taken at Dubai Motor show, and I seriously hope they do not bring in such "improvements" here. Of course, looks are subjective.)

Going by Mahindra standard, Chevrolet can advertise this as the cheapest and most fuel efficient compact SUV in India.

Re: Second generation Chevrolet Beat (Spark, internationally) coming in 2015

More pics of the 2017 Beat for India - 2017 Cheverolet line up will be the Essentia, Beat and the Beat Activ.

Second generation Chevrolet Beat (Spark, internationally) coming in 2015-4.jpg

Quote:
The new face – with swept-back headlamps and the American automaker’s latest grille design – the entire front profile, including the bumper, grille and headlamps, is exactly similar to the Beat Essentia compact sedan
Quote:
The side profile remains identical to that of the outgoing Beat.
At the rear, it gets a new set of tail lamps in the same profile and the licence plate gets shifted from the boot lid to the bumper.

On the inside, the 2017 Beat gets a subtly redesigned dashboard. GM has ditched the all-black layout of the current model for a dual-tone look, which seems surprising especially when most of the manufacturer are shifting to an all-black theme. The highlight on the inside is the addition of Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system (probably a seven-inch unit), which supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with voice commands (revealed at 2016 Indian Auto Expo).
