Tata needs a serious partner from Korea,Japan or even US .Co Branding must. Days of buying Indian brand Car for patriotism is over. It is a global warfare out there. Survival of the Fittest.
One other reason for sluggish car sale not reported in detail is impact of limited offtake through the Canteen Stores Departement, for use by Defence Personnel. Now for purchase through CSD approval at Army HQ requried. This is a dampner

Chevy had stopped sales for the diesel sail twins along with tavera over engine specification issues. Hence those figures. After the Tavera recall issue i dont know how chevy is going to recover those lost numbers of a muv which gave them around 2000 consistently.

Enjoy covering that damage for chevy to some extent.

thanks for the report parrys, its the report we look forward to the most during the first week of every month.

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Thanks Parry!

Indian Auto Industry going through a rough patch compared to last quarter. Tata indeed is loosing its market share significantly and hopefully the silence from them is the silence before the Storme

Volkswagen's attempt to boost sales for Polo (adding GT) does not seem to be working.

Maruti Swift is a showing a surprise dip in sales (Anybody knows why?Ecosport effect??)

Renault needs to buckle up for a rough time if they dont take immediate steps as the Ecosport has started eating into Duster's sale. Interesting will be to see how Terrano is going to fare in this trying times where value for money product is favored by Indian masses.

Clearly Alto is the number cruncher that shows why even Datsun Go is going to come at that price segment. Indeed can be a game changer provided they price it right and are able to reach the parts of India where Maruti already has presence.

Will we see a shift in Indian buyers moving to SUV vehicles compared to Sedans/Hatch??

The most awaited report of the month! Thanks a ton @Parrys.

Seems like duster is slowly loosing its charm to ecosport and other in that price range. While dezire continues to score, amaze is definitely giving it a good run. Recently M&M has also declared break in their production speed. Overall bad times for our very own manufacturer :(

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Any idea what the e2o is up to? I can't recollect seeing it appear in any of the charts post launch. Is M&M not disclosing the numbers or is it not selling any units?

I guess we aren't ready for electric cars as yet.

Could be. But most likely it will be a stripped down base version.

Hell yeah. If you are in no rush, postpone your decision for a few weeks - saying you need to rethink seeing the sales numbers for the past few months (all below 1k mark for Safari+Storme combined!) - that should do it.

Even if its a dud, I don't think TML will discontinue it anytime soon. Cut price variants, heavy discounts - maybe yes. So support should not be a problem for the next few years.

Isn't Maruti still selling Alto K10? Or are the Alto K10 figures are combined with Alto 800?

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Duster definitely being shown its way by Ford Ecosport. hovering at the 3000 mark. Renault, time to sell Duster at real prices. You have skimmed the market at a higher price now, I belileve you should drop the Diesel Prices by 1 - 1.5 Lacs INR depending upon the variant. This will bring you back into the race.

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Aria sold a record 26 units!!! Storme isn't garnering sales. So are the Verito, Vibe ,Quanto and Xylo. Duster is losing the price wars steadily but surely. Bolero's sales are also significantly on the decline from 11000s to 6000s. Mahindra's declining sales may also be because of the strike by their workers. Ecosport is repeating its success in India as well.

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

@Parrys: Thanks. Team BHP does it time and again and every month with out fail. Thanks for the himalayan effort and time.

I think Ford has managed to enter Top10.

Sunny, Scala and Swift sales MOM suffer due to Ford EcoSPort?

Verna and Duster show a continuos decline in the last 4 months.

Re: July 2013 : Indian Car Sales Figures & Analysis

Excellent comprehensive report, gives us all the information we need to make a buying decision, month on month, this helps a lot especially while advising colleagues at work

Finally we get to see what a knock-out punch the Ecosport has dealt to the Duster, hope Renault wakes up and revises the price, surely, the Duster does not cost that much to make

Tata is in a downward spiral, Ratan Tata leaving has affected the morale of the company, cannot see any other reason on why they refuse to act on feedback and use their potential

16 units of new Fiesta , that's a record! Guess Ford has given up on all models except the Ecosport and Figo..
The Fiat Punto has been showing consistent improvement .. It was Fiat's best in months..

Funny you should say that. They have Jaguar Land Rover all to themselves yet they do not want to make use of their know-how.
If they simply refuse to make use of that for their Tata products, then I shall be happy watching them fail.

So it seems. Not surprisingly, either: the worsening condition of roads in India has all the capability of pushing a lot of customers towards SUVs.

Renault had just been greedy with the Duster. They definitely did not think long term when they priced it. Did they think that no one else would enter the compact SUV segment? Why else would they price so high a car which is known globally as one of the cheapest models? What the hell were they thinking??

All are already taken care in case of Figo D which is known for better fuel efficiency and service & spares are already cheap, now what more to do?

Though the Fgo's sales is also down like all other cars due to downfall in the industry but its a fact that Figo is an outdated design developed on outdated platform which is powered by an outdated engine. They will have to work on new era platform. Now since a much competitive product- Ecosport is launched at the competitive price point, I doubt the situation will improve for Figo.

Effect of overall market downfall, nothing more IMO.
