Not really IMHO. Maruti is known for fuel efficient engines, VFM cars. Their cars are never performance oriented. Market (read people) has very well accepted that. Those who wants that, will go to other manufacturers. But those are very small in numbers in India. So people will accept this car with proven 1.3 MJD in 90 BHP avatar. It will be efficient than others. If people are fine with 1.3 MJD for 7 seater Ertiga, then why not this? I am sure, same engine from Ertiga will give far superior performance for this car with its aerodynamic shape, lesser weight (i assume) and lesser capacity (5 people). Maruti never want to compete with the likes of 1.5 TDI or 1.6 MJD. With this engine they will be able to price this car very competitively and that will be USP for the car. I am sure that this car will succeed a lot and soon will be No 1 in its class after launch. It will eat large numbers from cars like City, Vento, Sunny, Scala, Verna etc. Just wait and watch. Maruti is heading in right direction.

I agree to that on a general basis. But there are quite many exceptions:

- I think SX4 was not priced very low. I think 11-11.5 OTR (Bangalore) or so was the top end diesel (correct me if I am wrong).
- That is not very low compared to other sedans.
- If some one is pushing that much amount for a C segment sedan category, then built to a cost aspect may actually be a let down.
- In fact I just read and commented on a thread on built-to-a-cost compact sedans Vs Premium C-segment debate.
- In that case dynamics are way different than the C-segment premium.
- YL1 may be very well specced product. But my only point was for a premium C-segment built to a cost vs price advantage may not work well. (Again my personal opinion)
- Coming to Ertiga : Its a success no doubt. One of the best all rounder products available in the market.
- Agains its a success today because of its all round capabilities, badging, service etc. Not just a frugal engine alone. Its a well rounded product.
- You cannot compare the product dynamics of an Ertiga against the C-segment products.
- As regards to engine, I think they may have to compete against the 1.5/1.6 diesels for the C-segment.
- The last of 1.3MJD sedans (Linea) once upgraded to 1.6 would leave Maruti with 1.3. That according to me a big disadvantage.
- They may have to undercut the pricing in a big way to get market share.

The Suzuki SX4 S-Cross in the UK got the 1.6 MJD.

Can Maruti bring to India what Fiat is hesitant about. Hope the YL1 gets the 1.6 DDiS.

Here are the specifications from Suzuki SX4 S-Cross 1.6 DDiS.

Engine: 4cyls, 1598cc, turbodiesel
Power: 118bhp at 3750rpm
Torque: 236lb ft at 1750rpm
Gearbox: 6-spd manual

Wow!

Got this in the SX4 and update this engine and then a month or so later add the same engine to the Swift and call it Swift RS DDiS

Thanks! What about the engines? 1.3 DDiS VGT? 1.6 DDiS? 1.4 K14?

Any idea about the price range? I guess it would be in the range of the Duster/Terrano, instead of the EcoSport.

The upcoming SX4 crossover, which has already been launched in Europe, will be available with both a 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre(DDis) diesel engines in India.
Depending on the market for the 1.6 volumes , locally manufacture will be initiated depending on the licence agreement with Fiat.

Interantionally launched witha 1.6-liter naturally aspirated petrol enginet developing 120 hp and 156 Nm of torque, Maruti would try the
1.4-litre K Series Petrol Engine for the Indian market.

Cheers!

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

A very good thread Anshuman!!

However, just my opinion:

1) I doubt if the YL1 will be priced below the Rs. 10 lac bracket. The last time I had enquired about the VDi in Thane, the OTR after all discounts was 9.56 lacs.

2) As someone correctly mentioned, MS cars are all about "Kitna De ti hain" and not about performance. People will accept a well tuned 1.3 MJD in a neat packaged offering as compared to a 1.6 CRDi from any German Manufacturer just on the basis of sheer reliability.

3) The car looks great in pics and the interiors are certainly mature.

4) However, with the diminishing petrol vs diesel difference, 2014 may be a tad too late for the new product.

These pics are in continuation with the earlier shots we shared a few days back. In these new spyshots, the car continues to look masculine and bigger for a car of this segment. From a few angles, it also appears to look a lot like older Skoda Octavia which we had in our markets. It runs on trendy alloys and tyres which appear to be 17 inchers.

The new car will be heavily based on Suzuki’s Authentics Concept and hence, will be a looker. So are we in for the first sharp looking masculine C-segment Maruti? Appears to be the case here.

Suzuki Authentics sedan, the car which YL1 would be broadly based upon, will be made in China and debut in second half of 2014.

Suzuki Authentics stands on the same platform as the Suzuki S-Cross that will be launched on the Chinese auto market next month.
The S-Cross is powered by a 1.6 with 122hp and 158nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT. The Authentics will get the same engine, and will also be available with a 1.8.

Size of the S-Cross: 4300/1765/1585, wheelbase is 2600.

Price will range from around 100.000 to 150.000 yuan (~ 10 - 15 lakhs)

re: Team-BHP SCOOP: Maruti Ciaz / YL1. Scoop Pics on Page 99

YL1 looks a little like the Baleno from the side. It would have been great to have some curvy lines on the side just like the fluidic concept otherwise it would look plain vanilla.

I am sure YL1 would do decent numbers if priced right since it is based on the proven Swift platform.

This seems to be the YL1. The length is long for it to be a Dzire.

But why a Swift Sedan?

Can't they have a new start altogether?!
I know manufacturing cost etc but how can they juice that poor Swift and that platform!
