re: Ford Mustang coming to India. EDIT: Launched at 65 lakhs

I am eagerly waiting for the Mustang to mark its entry in India.
This move will be the first one amongst the major Muscle car makers and I really do hope the sales figures are good. It all boils down to pricing. I hope it is priced accordingly keeping the mindset of Indians in mind.
My guess is that the EcoBoost engine and other high power variant engines will make its way to India.
And the best thing of all? Camaro has been trying since quite a few years but could never take the big step to enter here in India.
Let's see what happens.
How can I forget the Challenger and Charger from Dodge?

Oh God it will be a sight to see

Cheers.

for 5,0 Ltr given these transfer rates expect over 1 Crore , there are over 200 % duties on these rates + VAT and margins for FORD India & Dealership.

Ford Mustang to launch in January 2016

Some good news for the enthusiasts as Ford will be launching the iconic Mustang on January 28, 2016. Source: Overdrive (http://overdrive.in/news/exclusive-f...on-january-28/)

The car will not be manufactured or be assembled here, but will be brought through CBU route, which will push the prices further up, but since the sales numbers are expected to be low, it doesn't makes sense to manufacture or assemble the car here.

According to the source, Mustang will be offered with 5.0-litre V8 engine making 435PS of power and 542Nm of torque and not the lower variants in India, i.e., EcoBoost and the 3.7-litre varient.

This will also be the first time that the Ford Mustang is offered in a right-hand drive configuration since its launch in 1964.

The price of Ford Mustang is expected to be between Rs 55 lakh to Rs 60 lakh, ex-showroom.

Thanks for reading.

Not going to buy one if its even close to 1 crore. I think these prices are high because of air cargo, as they've been flown in all the way from the US for the launch/auto expo. Mercedes manages 30 Lakhs transfer pricing for the big AMG's, so ford can do a lot better. They can't price it over 70, because it won't sell at all then.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't think volume is the current priority for Ford right now. The Mustang will be more of a halo car, which should improve brand equity for Ford in India.

They already are selling some capable vehicles like the Figo etc. This should help increase the sales of those cars.

A halo car that nobody buys is pointless. Short of 70L on road they can eat into TT, Z4 and CLA AMG sales, and that is the segment they would most likely target. Globally, the Mustang is recognized as one of the most affordable sports cars. No reason why they should position it any different in India, it's not like we have a dearth of options here.

Net net, about 65L on road, and they have a winner on their hands. Just enough BHP for the buck to offset the lack of snob value. IMHO a smart move to introduce only the top end variant, the lower ones would cannibalise sales and dilute the Mustang brand to being another wannabe like the Z4 and TT.

re: Ford Mustang coming to India. EDIT: Launched at 65 lakhs

Is the Mustang brand strong enough in India to command a price of close to a crore? I don't think so, Ford will be really pushing it if they try to price it at that levels. There are better cars out there at that price. I would prefer to buy a M3 or M4 even if they cost a bit more over a crore specially the M3 which is a proper 4 door sedan and hence more practical to live with on a daily basis.

Hell you can get a supercharged Audi S5 for 70 Lakhs. Why would anyone look at Mustang at this price range or above ?

You probably meant turbocharged. And you still don't get 400BHP+ in case one wants to join the cannonball club. Impossible with any other car less than 1 Cr.
