Mahindra launches Special Edition Scorpio

The Special Edition Scorpio gets the following features;
  • dual tone leather seats
  • leather covered steering wheel and shift knob
  • an integrated roof-mounted DVD player with a drop-down 9-inch screen
  • high-gloss wood trim on the dashboard and centre console.

The Scorpio Special edition also comes with chrome alloy wheels and dual front airbags. This special edition is limited to only 500 units and will be based on the top-end trim.

The company has not revealed the prices of the Scorpio Special Edition but it is expected to be around Rs 20,000-30,000 more than the current top-end variant.

Oh,so this was the thing they were test driving in the scoop earlier. Wish it was at least a proper facelift and not merely an edition with cosmetic changes.

IMO this might be a move to clear out all the current stocks before the launch of the facelift version.

This can be an indicator that the facelift might be launched sooner than we expected, Or has Mahindera played a gimmick by launching this as the new facelift version.

Nope this would not be it, the camouflaged version that we saw would be different. They would not camouflage a special edition version as they do not need to test it on the road.

They are making only 500 units of these so this cannot be for moving out stocks.

They had the same variant, same chrome alloys and all, a few years back. The white is of a pearl finish.

Re: Mahindra launches Special Edition Scorpio

It looks like a knee jerk reaction to slowing sales of the scorpio due to the launch of other more refined soft SUV's like the EcoSport and the Duster+Terano.

With both Maruti and Hyundai too gearing up for their own mini SUV launches, I think Mahindra needs to do more than cosmetic changes to bring back buyers.

Just wondering, the Scorpio has been around since 2003, so I am guessing they have already earned back way more than what they must have put in to develop this model, so the only way to kick start sales again would be to reduce prices.

They did the exact same thing back in 2010 during the auto expo - Scorpio Limited Edition with the same features, even the checkered flag decals!
Lame attempt by Mahindra.

May be when some one in Mahindra was auditing their stores department they would have found the left overs of the alloys, etc as inventory. The management would have thought how to get rid of them?!

This is how they do it!

How are they keeping things so subtle? Only chrome wheels are bad! I guess they should learn from Toyota as to how to fill the car with chrome.

Re: Mahindra launches Special Edition Scorpio

The Mahindras are trying their bit to keep some excitement on their best sellers such as Scorpio with the least investment in their current model type, since there is an expectation of an all new Scorpio in the next one year which would be hopefully be a heavily reworked version.

Till then we would get these slightly 'stickered' "Limited Editions" charging the customer that additional amount to fuel their marketing expenses. Not sure if they will start a spree of Limited Editions across their product range.

Trying to get the numbers to continue ticking over at a decent pace till the New Scorpio arrives in 2014 , even though cosmetic atleast there are some "heavy item" changes in that sense i.e wheels / DVD player - better than simply stickers and seat covers.

Yeah. Even i got to know from a friend that this is basically a model to clear the stock. Just to clear the path for launching the next scorpio with the bigger rims et al....

But this special edition is only 500 units and such a small number will not be a clearing stock gimmick.

May be they want to get the sales charts back on fire.

This move from Mahindra is aimed at getting the brand 'Scorpio' on auto newsletters. Of late, I don't see many talking about Scorpio, especially after the onslaught of numerous suv/muv.. They can't bring a new or refreshed model yet, therefore thought of bringing a special edition at least... Not sure how many would really get attracted to this.

Re: Mahindra launches Special Edition Scorpio

Seems uncannily similar to the 2011 Bolero Special Edition of which only a 1000 units were manufactured. The extra features also look similar to the Bolero Special Edition. Here is a copy paste

"After the recent debut of Mahindra Xylo Anniversary Edition, Here's what Mahindra has now come up with Bolero. Thankfully, this is worth calling as a Special Edition because what you get is one of the exclusive thousand manufactured units and some really functional facilities. Take a look.

- Leather Seats

- New Dashboard Finish

- New Spl. Edition Graphics

- Blue Vision Headlamps

- Wire Mesh Front Grille

- Bolero Tele-Alert System

With the help of last mentioned feature, the owner will be automatically notified of the theft attempt and he can switch on or switch off the car simply by sending an SMS from his cellphone. This is something like the 'Black Box'. All this for a premium of Rs.80,000. "

Makes me think that 20-30k is a really conservative estimate for the Scorpio Special Edition if the prices of the Bolero special edition are anything to go by.

Re: Mahindra launches Special Edition Scorpio

One of the guys on the same street as mine has a Mhawk which used to come with the chequered flag stickers, I noticed that the stickers tend to fade with time, he parks it in the open all the time and that is hastening the process, Mahindra has to pay attention to the stickering that is going on its vehicles, atleast tell the buyers that they have an expiry date
