re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

Absolutely Nano Auto is welcome since it will appeal many first time buyers or infact first time drivers who are apprehensive of driving.

However as said it should be a CVT rather than a traditional auto box which should serve the purpose and also do not compromise on mileage.

For that matter any new variant such as Auto and Diesel for Nano will be a welcome boost to the cute and tiny competent car and should lift it sales.

re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

Bring it on, Tata. I would be very interested in an auto Nano. I think the Nano is brilliant for crowded cities, I have seen it go where only autos can squeeze in (when the BEST stops in the middle of the road, with a road-divider on the other side), and thats a major plus. An auto option would increase the cars utility to a new segment.

You know, Tata might just be on to something here. Imagine if they pull a rabbit out of the hat with a Nano Diesel AT .

Gosh, what a perfect city commuter it would be. The Nano is anyway not moving off showroom floors, so why not experiment with new categories?

The price will also be a critical. Hope they manage it around 3L+ for the top variant. Just hope than they will be flooded with the orders.

It's a swell idea, GTO. I hope Tata is reading this. Right now, Nano is the joker of the pack. Laughed at and ridiculed by the one-size-up hatchback owners ( as though they are driving BIG cars ). But if Tata can plonk a diesel mill and add an AT, Nano will have the last laugh. And Tata will be smiling all the way to bank. Given it's compact dimensions ( but surprisingly large interior space ), it would be darling of inner-city commuters.

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

A more powerful nano with the auto box, better brakes, power steering and maybe add some refinement..wishful thinking maybe, but doable isnt it?
With the current sales the nano is averaging, tata needs to do something rather than just adding new colours, mirrors and glove boxes to the existing car, in the name of upgrades.

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

Good idea to launch it in a market where it will stand a chance of being judged on its merits and will not have to fight negative perception in the market.

Who knows - the vehicle might even gain better acceptance in India after it has been endorsed in some 'phoren countries'. After which they should re-introduce it in this country with a brand name like Lanchester or Wolseley that they already own thanks to JLR.

Tata Motors is evaluating the idea of introducing the Nano with an automatic gearbox in India.

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

Any idea when this is expected to come out? Can we expect the launch sometime in 2014? All the ATs currently available in the market are overpriced and a nano with an auto for 3.5L to 4L onroad price would be a killer. Bye bye e2o...If not for the price, I would be having an e2o as my second car by now.

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

A Nano twist AT would just be what the doctor ordered. It would be just right for first time owners or anyone who needs to drive predominantly within the city. And yes, a Diesel Nano twist AT would actually 'create the need' and push people to buy. It would be like the iPad which created a firm slot for itself between the laptop and desktop.

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

It should have been launched long ago. With Maruti discontinuing the A-Star AT, and with no idea on Celerio AT prices, there exists a large gap in the market for an inexpensive AT car.

Given that the Nano already delivers good FE (for a petrol), the AT should not put too much of a dent in economy, and along with the PS, would add massively to the Nano's city car appeal...

Given that a petrol Nano Twist XT costs Rs. 2.8 lakh OTR Bangalore, I would have happily bought the Automatic one if it was Rs. 3.0 - 3.2 lakh OTR Bangalore, and saved quite a lot over the A-Star I ultimately bought (still love my A-Star though ).

Re: Tata to launch Nano Automatic in Indonesia? Should it come here?

Going by Tata's track record with an AT for the Aria, we can expect to see announcements every few months of a Nano AT for the next three years without them really launching anything.

This is all vapourware until we see it in dealer showrooms. Showing it off at motor shows in Geneva and elsewhere don't count.

They release more announcements and teasers (Nano Diesel! Vista Refresh! Aria AT! Pixel! Xover! Blah! Blah!) than actual cars anyway.

You could buy a carrying case for an iPad easily but a parking space for the Nano Twist (D) AT wherever you go wouldn't be as easy.

Is there any news of the 3 cylinder petrol Nano? A more powerful motor would probably be required for AT operation.
