This is more photoshop engineering by Cartoq. When you badge engineer, the price of both versions need to be in the similar ball park like the Nissan Terrano cousins. We can't slap on a Tata Badge on Discover Sport that sells for 50 + Lakhs and hope to sell it from Tata Showroom. The can only use input from Landrover but no way can they afford to share the whole platform and hope to sell it at the price it will cost.

If it is near future as in the article, it can only be the Kite 5 with a few features, that TML may market as "Premium"

It definitely will be a premium positioning. Seeing the Tiago, it's absolutely clear that the Kite will be a premium CS.

JLR plans to make Land Rover SUVs for Indian market.

Jaguar Land Rover, the British luxury vehicle unit of Tata Motors, is planning to make Land Rover SUVs in India for the local market and exports.
JLR is discussing internally and also with component vendors about the possibility of making a mini version of the Defender in India by 2019-20

A small team of engineers has already reached out to vendors to discuss the quality and cost of components the company would likely need, and it is seeking quotation for the potential manufacturing of 50,000 units a year

What is a Mini Defender? Are they referring to the SWB 2-Door Defender? Or, is it a completely new CUV with the Defender Tag. If so, they should rename it to Befender so the it doesn't dilute the Defender History.

If they can make the current Short Wheel Base Defender in India, they can look at the armed services market in India also.

According to CAR. Land Rover are looking at a smaller SUV to slot below the Discovery Sport at a lower cost with a steel body. This must be it. Might be made in Slovakia and India

TAI member Autospy spotted this rather curious-looking Land Rover Discovery Sport clone (completely debadged) on testing rounds, shod with steel wheels and the engine making a turbo noise when revved up.

It could be a lower variant of the Sport, but doubtful that Land-Rover will offer a Sport variant without alloys.

Which begs the question: Could it be the future Q501 or Q502 SUV from Tata, being tested under a Discovery Sport's shell?

Tata's premium flagship SUV, the Q5, has been spotted testing again under the Discovery Sport's skin by a Thrust Zone spy.

Said to be developed completely by Land Rover inputs and also being developed on the LR 5 platform which sits underneath the Discovery Sport, the Q5 (possibly Q501, 5-seater) will sit atop the Hexa in Tata's lineup and will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Tucson, the Jeep Compass, the Skoda Yeti and the Honda CR-V in the Rs 20 lakh - Rs 25 lakh price bracket.

The Q5 SUV has been spotted by TAI member, Autospy.

This time, the test mule was shod with 5-spoke alloys and the steering wheel had the Tata "T" badge in the center.

Yesterday I have spotted Evoque testing with single exhaust with stunning alloy wheels. Car had batches of range rover but Steering was of Tata Motors. Tyres looks thinner than actual evoque tyres.
Seats was premium and dash board was all messed up with wiring. may be attached some testing equipment's.

Now we can confirm that Q501 is 5 seater with Evoque Platform
and Q502 is 7 Seater with Discovery sport platform.

Interiors and central console pattern resemble the LR Discovery, while the steering wheel carries the Tata logo, according to the OP.

Also, this SUV test mule was equipped with a manual transmission.
