Ikon has lost the charm. I hate the cheap plastic interiors of Ikon. Besides, it looks outdated especially after the launch of Fiesta and the competitors. Used Ikons are available for as low as 2 lacs!!!

The pictures are seirous, and humour is pitifully misplaced.

And in answer to those who talked about the hgih ownership costs of the Ikon, I concur with them but will also say that the new Corsa which replaced it has, after 3 years of trouble-free ownership, started emulating its predecessor in service and parts costs.

The pics seem to be taken outside India and the car looks the same as is available here. Do Ford sell the Ikon as-is in western markets as well ? I was thinking it is only for India and some other developing countries.

A little OffTopic :
Islero, GM cars are again known to be maintenance heavy. But what kind of costs are you incurring ? Any ballpark figures available for regular services ?

My Car Mec says ford ikon has most of the internal parts in plastic and not very strong. This makes it more expensive.

Ikon Sells in South Africa. Infact the south african car parts are manufactured in India. So there is no reason to beleive that it will be discontinued so soon. Infact the Xtramile Diesel Ad is actually a south African car (identifiable by its RVM's) and definitely where would you get such roads and fall colors in India.

But the only point is, people are selling Ikons because they know that the 1.3 that is currently being sold is very much a no-brainer in its segment, and sooner or later they will have to pull the plug. I know lot of people are going to say that the 1.3 outsold the 1.6 in a big margin. But if you consider and classify the target customers of these cars , you will realise that the 1.6 has done much better in its target group than the 1.3.

Why so many Ikons for Sale

I'm an Ikon Owner.
And I wnat to sell too.
WHY
1. Service is awful. The service centres actually cheat you
2. Spares are awfully expensive
3. Wear and tear of parts such as Discs, bearings, AC valves is very high
No wonder then

I am looking for zen from past 3 months. I am not getting a good Zen but get details of around 5 Icons a week for sale. I wonder why people are taking it out for sale ? that too Owners are ready to sale as much less as 2.5 lakhs for a 2001 model.

Any special reasons ? Kindly comment.

How many variants (based on engine cc) of the Ikon are there ? As far as I know, there are three - the 1.3L (Flair), 1.6L and the 1.8L. Asking because I see some Ikons with just "IKON" written on the boot. No "Flair" or "1.6" or "1.8D". What engine variant are these Ikons ?

Ikon's with just Ikon badging is 1.3 (Flair is a 1.3) The diesel has (had) 1.8D moniker on the right side of the Boot and the 1.6 had a 1.6 badging exactly there.

Most of the Ikon's on Sale are the 1.3 and the 1.8D kind. There is absolutely no charm in those cars. But the 1.6 owners prefer to keep these cars for a longer time. As regards the Ford Service, I was fortunate enough to be a customer of Ford when they switched Dealerships in Kolkata. I bought the Ikon inspite of a lot of negative comments about the Service. But somehow am satisfied with it. They generally do not do things free but they havn't charged me anything illogical as of now.

Thank you so much friends. I have changed my mind. I cant go with this costly baby, I will be happy searching with my ZEN & run with cheaper Maruti rather then going for IKON.

Someone Please correct me if i am wrong.
But wasnt Ikon launched initialy with the pushrod engine that did duty for Ford Escort?Ikon's came with ROCAM engines only after Jan2003,i think.Pushrod engines delivered 57bhp,when compared to the 69bhp of ROCAM engines. Also since the launch of this ROCAM engines,Ikon's had the Nxt badge to them.So if you see only IKON badge, then they might be pre 2003 pieces with pushrod engines.
