Re: 2013 BMW 5-Series Facelift launched in India

I still cannot understand why the 5 series LWB sold is China is not brought here.

The usage pattern is very similar.

Re: 2013 BMW 5-Series Facelift launched in India

That Black 530d in M Sport trim looks great. Has the car gained ground clearance? The wheel wells look ungainly.

Thank God BMW didn't extend the headlights to meet the grille. I hate that styling cue on the new BMWs.

Re: 2013 BMW 5-Series Facelift launched in India

The Price of the 520d Is up from 43 odd Lacs by almost 4 lacs. And the price rise doesnt seem justified at all.
Considering most 520d buyers in the last 12 months bought their cars for anywhere between, 35-39 lacs ex showroom, don't think these are gonna get a flying start.

No Six Cylinders in 525d is a complete let down.

The only reason for this price hike is to make way for the upcoming 3GT. Since they are planning to assemble it in India I won't be surprised if it's priced in the bracket of the previous pre-facelift 5er. And saw this car in flesh yesterday evening and apart from the front grill (which I reckon should fit in the pre lci as well as the dimensions are same) there don't seem to be any big changes at all apart from the technological upgrades.

Accept it or not, Downsizing is here to stay, let's be mentally prepared for a 4 cylinder 530d in future

With the new 4 cylinder 525d the charm and feel of 6 cylinder may be lost but the boosted 2.0 engine will surely match the performance of the older 525d.

The differences are mentioned in the spec sheet provided. Its basically chrome for luxury and matt chrome for the modern. The alloy wheels are also different for both. Also the stitching on the leather seats, one is in black and the other is in oyster.

The 2.0 twin turbo has actually been in the 525d since December '12 or Jan this year, when they launched the 520i, and added the M Sport kit to the 530d.

Its the same block as the 20Ds, with an extra turbo.

I knew it was introduced in other markets, i even remember discussing it in some thread long time back, but i did not know it came to India before the facelift.

Didn't the pre-facelift 520d have a 0-100 acceleration time of about 8.1 seconds?

I realise 0.2 seconds isn't a big difference but what I'm curious about is how they managed this increase in acceleration (7.9 seconds to reach the 100kmph mark in the new 520d) considering the fact that the engine and the transmission haven't changed in the facelifted model. Or is there something I'm missing here?

Just realised, even the claimed top speed on the facelifted model is 231 kmph while that on the pre facelift 520d was 225 kmph (if I remember correctly).

This is my favourite Beemer. Though I am surprised at them not offering navigation as standard on the 520d which costs nearly 50 lacs on road.

We brought home a 520d a month ago at 41L (OTR Gurgaon) which went up by about a lakh immediately and now further by another 4L which translates into 4.5L OTR price. While they have added some features like 18" Alloys, Rear Camera, Leather Wrapped Steering, LED Lights (I am still confused whether it's standard or optional in case of 520D), the price of their bread and butter model has been revised to reach at 50L OTR which treads into the territory of E-Class which on all accounts is a superior product.
So, in this case, either heavy discounting has to come in sooner than later or they would loose sales on their best selling model. Either ways, I think Audi is gonna enjoy their outing with A6 which still sells at 42L OTR Haryana.

As for 525D, it was revised to a 4 cylinder way back last year, so nothing new in this freshened up range... Cheers!

Agreed fully. The 5 series always sold on a discount and this version will be no different. 42~43L is the on-road price I foresee for the 520D model in the coming months.

I don't think they can go this low, however the pricing benchmark has now clearly shifted to around 45-46L from around 40L in recent past for this segment of cars. While, BMW, even after being discounted by about 12-15% would come in this price point, Audi is still in 42L bracket which may actually go up as they too would like to milk their customers like others . The E-Class however is still not discounted and so is enjoying 50L bracket till it starts getting discounted or a stripped down version is introduced...

Got Mine for 41 on road 8 months ago. I cant believe the same car will cost close to 50 now. I do expect huge discounting in 2 months time.

Same Strategy as the New 3 I reckon. I bought the 3 series for 32.5 ex showroom. After that it was immediately increased to 34.5 ex showroom and discounts range between 5-6 lacs on the 3 series today, less than a year after launch.

As far as the new 5 is concerned, LEDs are there even on the 3 series luxury and sport line. Even the internal lighting choices in the new 5 series have been present on the 3 series since last year. Why would i pay 5-6 lacs extra for 2-5 features which are present even on the lower model 3 series?

Completely Agree that E class and A6 will come out as clear winners in this category. Even if BMW does offer 5-7 lacs discount to match E class, the officially announced price tags which have been published all over the media, will drive a majority of the customers (especially first time customers) away even before they enter the showroom.

Many customers never even walk into showrooms if they feel the price on paper is unjustified or out of their budget. Its the same reason i never considered a jaguar XF even though i liked the car.
