re: Export A-Star badged as Alto

This is the export model of the Astar which is sold as Alto in many countries. Not sure what brings it out of the factory. Good catch nevertheless.

Normally these export models are not registered in India for regular use and this seems to be regular registered number.
Test cars run with temporary red registration number plates.

That's a TC number plate and HR-registered means mostly a Maruti company car being used for some testing or to ferry employees.

Or, could be the owner just peeld off "A-Star" logo and in its place stuck "Alto" logo. That is not impossible. I recently saw a Tata Xenon Toyotized. He blanked out stamped Tata logo and in its place stuck Toyota sticker.

Is the rear window glass fixed? Notice the rivet-like thingies on all corners of the glass?

Note that this one has only one reverse light. The RHS and LHS tail lights are different, so it must be the export model.

One more point to prove that it is an export model: Indian A-star does not come with rear wiper. Zxi comes with rear defogger, but no wiper.

Nice catch .

Yes, it seems to be fixed...there is also no weather strip to indicate that it can be opened.

re: Export A-Star badged as Alto

There's a news report in today's Economic Times that Maruti has pulled the plug on the A-Star.

Now looking at these photos, I wonder if Maruti will start re-branding the A-Star as the "new Alto" or "Grand Alto" (that prefix is a favorite among auto manufacturers)

Precisely the point I wanted to make. This must be the export version.

Plus, notice the rear windshield wiper. The one sold in India does not have this even in the VXi trim. Shame on Maruti

re: Export A-Star badged as Alto

This is the export variant of A-Star branded as Suzuki Alto, Suzuki Celerio or Nissan Pixo. Only India models of A-Star have rear windows that open, in all export vairants the rear windows are screwed shut adn they get only 1 back light.

This must be a test car or MSIL might be using it to move employees around.
