Sorry the model above I was referring to was not SRX but SRV. IMHO Chevrolet introduced that model well ahead of time in India.

Adding to the list is proper 3-point seat-belt for the rear middle seat. That's a segment first if I am not mistaken! Definitely a move in the right direction.
.

Only time will tell if Mr.Bhargava will let it be or not.

The interiors do not look impressive at all. The design is reminiscent of the last generation i20.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Here is some more information on the YRA hatch, EU specific,
The YRA hatchback to sit alongside the Swift, and the car is referred to “all about the driver,” so it will have a bigger boot and more space in the back – making it a rival for mini MPVs .

It is said to be very comfortable, raised up a bit and not as dynamically wired as the Swift. speculated to weigh 90kg less than the Swift.
The YRA will be displayed at the Geneva show in March 2015, before going on sale in early 2016 in EU.

Next Gen Swift is speculated to arrive in 2017.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

As others have stated, the front and the back looks don't match up. The front should have been sharper to gel properly with the rear look.
IMHO, its upto personal tastes, but the front grill also jars the overall look of the car.

Whats exciting to me about the design is the long bonnet. These days with cab forward designs, the bonnet is being eaten up. So on that front i'm happy that Maruti is trying to get that look here. In a dark colours - black, midnight blue, chocolate brown, a long bonnet adds a dash of elegance to any car.

Thanks for the info, but I think the marketing guys sound a bit confused.
all about the driver , bigger boot and more space in the back – making it a rival for mini MPVs and not as dynamically wired as the Swift scream to me that's its all about couples/small families and driving on weekends, not driving pleasure.

He left out the first half of the sentence while quoting it, if you read the full sentence from the article it makes sense.

Correct - Swift is all about the driver, and this YRA is for boot and rear space.

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

Maruti begins testing the YRA here, seems big and spacious in pics. Hope it has Suzuki's new turbo petrol engine as previously speculated.

Love the rear looks. Super-planted stance.

Not sure how Maruti plans to position their new sub-4m launches - (this premium hatch and the XA-Alpha), and yet maintain the leadership of Swift brand. As mentioned earlier, naming this hatch as another Swift (Super Swift or Swift Senior) may help them. Also, I expect a pricing in line with those given below may be good:

Swift base petrol (LXi): 4.5L
YRA base petrol (VXi): 5.5L
XA-Alpha base petrol (VXi): 6L

Re: Rumour: Maruti Suzuki developing YRA B+ segment hatchback

If Maruti Suzuki aims to address the drawbacks of Swift while designing this car, they should also reduce the high loading point of the boot. Ever tried of unloading a filled gas cylinder from the boot of a Swift? Your "boot" will be gone.

Seems it is not yet addressed. Seeing the design theme at the rear, the design team was aiming a bigger A-Star rather than a better Swift, IMO.

But competition is moving fast forward in terms of rear design. When MS designed the Celerio with old i10 in mind, Hyundai came up with a better rear in Grand i10. Now, when MS tries to aim i20, Hyundai came up with a better looking rear for Elite i20.
