Huh? 2.2L is a more powerful engine, so IMHO, it should be priced higher than the 3.0 DICOR. Unless tata introduces the 2.2L on a smaller SuV and leaves DICOR untouched.

I agree that it's more powerful but.... It is still placed in the current model... That weighs close to 1.5 Ton or more... a 2.2L engine will need more power to pull it... Remember how sluggish the TCIC was even with a Turbo...So overall the safari will have the same power to weight ratio...be it a 3L DICOR or the 2.2L 140 bhp....

With other things being equal, 140bhp engine will have a higher p/w ratio than a 116bhp engine.... no matter when the engine is a 2.2l or 3l one.

It is coming guys. Let me show you the pics of teh new Tata 2.2 L released at "Bologna Motor Show" from 7th to 17th Dec 07:

Chk here: tata safari - Bologna Motor Show 2006 in Yahoo! Cars

Moreover as we saw the pic of New "Tata TL ", here is what it will look likt on Indian Roads:
tata pickup - Bologna Motor Show 2006 in Yahoo! Cars

Safari with 2.2. L will be launched by March-June 07 and will definitely be better in terms of engine. However I am not sure what mileage will it give with a 135 bhp to be more specific engine.

Moreover by then Scorpio with 2.2 L engine 140 BHP all Aluminium engine will be released which will infact set a benchmark for diesel engines.

I donno how will tata manage all this

regards

Rajeev

It must be the other way around...the 2.2 will be priced at a premium over the 3.0 dicor.

I dont think so... Thats what i was told... although the prices have not yet been decided... but do you seriously think that a 2.2L will be more expensive than a 3.0L dicor... I doubt it bro... Lets wait and watch..

How that, Godfather? 115 bhp 3 litre heavy engine and 142 bhp 2.2 litre aluminium engine in the same body - how now they have ditto power to weight?

PS: Just saw your last post. Comment not valid anymore.

Sure why not....if the 2.2 produces 140bhp, then who wouldnt pay a premium for it. The current one produces around 115bhp...a difference of 25bhp....

Also this engine is expected to be better refined than the 3.0, so i wouldnt be surprised if the 2.2 is more expensive.

Hrag, does the LX come in 4x4? I thought only the EX & the VX did.....anyways, I think you should buy the EX 4x4......don't think you'll regret the decision.

LX also comes in 4x4 - all variants come with the 4x4 option.

But I agree he should look at EX 4X4.

I am a bit confused, the under the sheets pic has a better looking TL than the 2.2 which is not under the sheets!?
Is Tata planning 2 versions of TL? Or is it that the under the sheets thing is the model to be slated between safari and sumo

A SUV version of the new TL Pickup, *slurrp* sounds delicious. But what do you mean by cheaper engine?? I thought jyobeb mentioned that this vehicle (PHOENIX) will be powered by the same 2.2L engine.

I guess, we should stop dreaming (rather day-dreaming) about tata's future launches. Wishful thinking eh ?!?

Unless, tata's decide to pass on the cost saved by the less heavy engine to the consumer. Remember your local kabaadiwala, more metal, more the price you get.. But i doubt, that Tata's would be willing to do that for charity, so expect a more expensive 2.2L..

I guess the present 2.0L TL is a bit underpowered, I have published my test-drive review on this site somewhere under the "sports utility truck (SUT)" thread.

The more powerful 2.2L engine will give it just the right amount of punch to beat the competetion overseas. I doubt it would be released into the local market anytime soon, unless TATA's expand their production capacity phenomenally.. My hunch is that the TATA-TL 4x4 with a 2.2L engine will be hugely popular in the overseas market. As for the indian market, it remains to be seen when it gets launched..

well guys went to the local Tata dealer in dehradun.....according to him the car will be launched in january end or feb....

no quotes on the price....

from other posts its clearly seen that these dealers have no idea about the launch of the 2.2L.
