Do you think that It can manage to give better fuel efficiency??? I am "DOUBTFUEL", I mean DOUBTFUL....
I am sure the new engine will give better FE then the current 3.0L since its lighter and has more advanced tech and remember more power doesnot mean less FE.

On another note the 3.0L Dicor gives decent mileage and is no gas guzzler but yes its twin in petrol form is.

Huh? What? Are they planning to launch a facelifted safari as well?

they have plans for a newly designed safari for 2008 with the same 2.2 ltr engine but looking at their current R&D and processes to production assembly lines, expect to hear nothing before 2010 and launch not before 2012.

Hey Dadu, You had asked me to find out abt the 2.2 L safari, my source told me it will be out close to Diwali. He also mentioned it will be like a year long parade from tata's starting Diwali. Next in line is the new Sumo, the new indica (with fiat diesel engine) and so on it seems they have close to 48 new launches lined up.

so - correct me if i am wrong, they are taking off a 3L engine and putting in a 2.2L? Unless the 2.2 is more powerful, to me it looks like a not so smart move.

2.2 L is so powerfull that you all will be amazed. It is reportedlly doing 170-180 KMPH with ease, the problem is whether the current frame is capable of taking that kind of speeds and will the handling of the vehicle become dangerous. I am sure it will be and one can be rest assured that they will see lot of smashed Safari's and Scorpio's in future.

thanks ranc, for your valuable inside news.

akshay, you can search for the probable new engine specs which as ranc said has more power and lighter. but they also might keep the 3ltr engine till india moves to euro4 by 2010, ofcourse these will be under different price ranges.

but the good part is that EU has gone euro4 this june and tata can only sell 2.2 ltr engine now there, so expect slghtly lesser problems when its launched here, the europeans are the ginni-pigs for now.

Dadu

It seems that the 2.2 L will come at the same price points, 3.0 L might take the price point of the 1.9 L TCIC. This is what the source mentioned but you never know, I think its going to be decided more by the scorpio pricing and not by what they think that the price should be.

ranc, thats exactly what was in my mind, but there are so many factors in the pricing including market forces and brand value, that i didnt want to be too specific, lets wait till sep-oct to see what they decide(diwali is in nov)

TATA motors is on a global expansion mode and has/is acquiring companies across the world, that would also mean acquisition of technologies, which will be useful for them for sure.

lets hope that they have put this acquired knowledge to good use in the 2.2 ltr and others.

Interesting...whatever resale value that safari now commands will take some more beating.
