My sicere thanks to TBHP, the fellow TBHPeans and this thread...

This is an amazing place.

Just when I was considering buying a Safari....I got all the info and help here on time (in fact this site taught me the habit of doing research before buying)...

Though the Safari test drive helped me to completely drop the idea of buying one, I am still hooked to this thread. I think these threads are a BIG BIG help to motorists in India.

Knowledge is power.

Long live TBHP.

Back on topic:
As a follow up of my horrible feedback to Tata Motors after the Dicor 3.0 TD, their territory manager visited me with a brand new Dicor 3.0 (and it was in much better shape than the previous vehicle) and just listened to me and answered all my issues (no real answers mind you as we all know too much about the vehicle already because of TBHP). But when I asked him about 2.2 Dicor and stuff....oh boy he was so impressed....within a couple of minutes he took a note (mentally) that the customer is knowledgeable so better share all the data....so he gave away this -

1) 2.2 will be launched NOW (not later). Vx will get powerful engine.

2) He ack'ed that the rear row middle seat is hard like a stone (due to the stone-like armrest) and promised to take it as a product feedback.

3) He tried to defend that the steering is indirect "on purpose". When I started laughing, he made a unique offer - "Sir, it's for safety of all general customers, but for knowledgeable customers like you, we can reduce the steering play before giving the delivery!!!!!"....I was speechless.

I have invited him to T-BHP.

That's very, very interesting to say the least, especially coming from a decent level guy like the Territory Manager. I can kind of see the sense in their actions too, since a quick reacting steering in such vehicles can be a recipe for disaster in the hands of most drivers in our country.

NO NO.

There is a difference between "Speed sensitive power steering" and "steering play".

He was trying to tell me that both are the same...Finally, I offered him a TD of my NHC and demonstrated how the light NHC steering puts up weight as speed increases and at 100/120 kmph, it's much heavier than it is at 40 kmph thus providing the safety while still remaining "a direct steering with no play".

In fact, a steering play at 120 kmph WILL get you in trouble if you are passing on undevided roads. I showed him how in his Dicor and he went silent....

We'll get the same specifications here too.
85 MM Bore and 96 MM stroke.
This looks like an all-new engine from Tata, not a rebored Sumo engine.
An all-new engine was long overdue actually.

For the petrol Safari, they had rebored the Sumo engine and given it a new head with twin cam and 16 valves.

Engine weight is not mentioned so I can't make out whether it is all-aluminium. Sumo engine (with cast iron block) weighs 200 KG dry, IIRC. I think someone on this forum had mentioned earlier that this engine is all-aluminium.

Fuel consumption figures are truly impressive for a two-tonne beast.
Almost 13 KMPL overall!

this means only vx gonna get 2.2l and if its true then how come TATA gonna face competition from Scorpio.

it happened to me with INDICA also just six months old and then i am looking at new one.(no regrets though)
i guess now a days in India also, the product life or cycle will be short.

i think fiat management has given some GYAN to tata management.

No, AFAIK the VX will sport a 160-165 bhp 3L engine. The others will come with the 2.2L engine.

Uh... and how are you so sure of that mate? What you are talking about is the spread, the deviation... The spread can be as wide as you want it to be or as narrow as you wish. Say why not 21 kmpl to 5kmpl? Or just 14 kmpl and 12 kmpl?

Its from the specifications posted by the manufacturer i.e. TATA on their Italian site and the translation/conversion done by me (see the post #590). I couldnt have dreamt of it
