CarToq.com: Volkswagen planning Jetta sub-brand for India, considering taxi-market entry.
https://www.cartoq.com/volkswagen-pl...and-for-india/

Will this make the Jetta owners any happier or curse their luck? How the mighty have fallen!

A quick search took me to this article showing the models under the Jetta sub-brand. Looks like they are recycling old names under this brand. And yes, they look like they have been made for the taxi market

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Jetta origin... If I remember correctly, it is a Golf with a boot. A Golf turned into a saloon.

Next to the original Beetle, the Golf is the archetypal VW car. I have never been able to understand why they won't sell it here. I suppose its size puts it firmly in saloon (sedan) price zones, whilst remaining a hatchback. But India very quickly got over its anti-hatchback bias: is it not time to try a larger, higher-priced hatchback?

(The modern Beetle is also a Golf: with reduced headroom!)

Both VW and Skoda, along with their major models, have very strong international brand identity. Why does VAG want to mishmash all that for India?

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Why not simply use the age-old Vento bodyshell with the 1.0 engine, strip all electronics out and use as a taxi offering? Package a 7 year warranty / service scheme and it should sell well.

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

For those debating on the 'Jetta' sub-brand, it is already launched in China and seems successful there.

VW is exploding to replicate the same in India( and other (emerging/cost conscious markets) with the SUV's from the 'Jetta brand' and maybe the Sedan for the taxi segment.

Price for reference only:

VW Shows Cost-Cutting Skills In China With $13,000( INR 9 lakhs) Jetta VS5 SUV
Quote:
With dimensions close to Skoda's Karoq, and built by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture at its Chengdu plant, the VS5 is in fact a rebadged Seat Ateca and the dimensions attest that. The SUV is 4,419 mm (174 inches) long, 1,841 mm (72.5 inches) wide and 1,616 mm (63.6 inches) high, with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm (103.5 inches).

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Is VW planning an entey to the taxi market using a petrol engine? I doubt the reception it's going to receive here. Most taxis here are Diesel although I'm not sure about the luxury ones!

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

For Europe:

Volkswagen introduces 2.0 TDI engine that meets Euro 6d standards.

Quote:
Volkswagen introduced a new product that improved the performance of its core engine, the 2.0 TDI engine. The new 2.0 TDI engine is equipped with sophisticated twin dosing technology to meet future emission standards of Euro 6d, as well as improved vibration and noise.
Utilization of two SCR catalytic converters to reduce emissions

Quote:
The twin dosing system is a technology newly developed by Volkswagen to reduce emissions. Two SCR catalytic converters work together to separate nitrogen oxides into water and nitrogen using an AdBlue solution.

The first SCR catalytic converter is installed at the bottom of the engine and serves to convert more than 90% of nitrogen oxides. A second SCR catalytic converter is installed on the vehicle floor. Since it is installed far from the engine, it performs a major part of the NOx conversion, especially at high loads and correspondingly high exhaust gas temperatures.

Is Volkswagen Atlas Cross India bound?

Recently, a teaser has been shared by Ashish Gupta, Head of Volkswagen India and it points the finger at a fourth brand new SUV that could be launched before the arrival of the Taigun. It could hit as early as March 2021 and it could turn out to be a shooting brake/station wagon styled model judging by the wide frontal appeal and the large greenhouse or it could be a coupe-like crossover

Atlas Cross would make no sense seeing as to how badly the Tiguan Allspace failed.

From the silhouette it looks like a low car. It could be a Passat estate which again does not make sense.

Other option could be the regular facelifted Tiguan, not the Allspace.

Since the T-ROC was quite compact, VW may not bother bringing it again since it will end up being quite close to the Taigun india made SUV. So the end result could be to have the smaller Tiguan to compete with the facelifted Compass and leave the larger SUV category to Skoda to get the Kodiaq TSI.

Possibly the VW Taos?

VW India may position it between the Taigun and Tiguan.

Could it be the Jetta VS5, considering the rumours about Volkswagen exploring the launch of the Jetta brand in India?

Re: Volkswagen India: The Way Forward

Hello bhpians.

Just confirmed from my sources in VW that there are no plans of launching the Polo in India, atleast this year. In fact VW is thinking on the lines of stopping the production of the current Polo in the near future.

Also confirmed news regarding Taigun is that tomorrow will mark the start of preproduction cars at Chakan plant which VW calls as "0 series". These cars are almost the same as final production cars and are meant to be used as display and demo vehicles. After this there will be SOP of Taigun scheduled for either later this month or in early February.

I am awaiting additional information regarding the Taigun and will share it as soon as I receive it.

That makes sense. I was surprised to read reports about the new Polo coming that too revised for the IN specific platform. Seemed unlikely considering they have clearly mentioned that there strategy going ahead is SUVW. Would've been good to have a solid hot hatch that's not a decade old though
