This is sad news.

Karl Slym, MD, Tata Motors passed away at Bangkok today afternoon.

R.I.P.

TML was begining to come back to the mainstream in his leadership and he is no more.

He was particularly known for a lot of initiatives at Tata Motors like the Horzionnext, vendor count reduction, quality improvement methods etc.

Who will take over TML's helm now? I just hope it is someone as good as, or better than Karl.

Just came to know from a friend at TML

Cyrus Mistry wrote to all employees that Cal Slym has passed away.

nothing in news as of now.

Very sad. He was the man behind the 'Chevrolet Promise' and the turnaround of GM's Fortunes in India. I feel sad that a good guy who cared about his customers has gone up to the great assembly line in the sky.

His shoes will be difficult ones for the Tata Group to fill, so as to ensure continued progress at their Passenger vehicles division.

Just read on TOI twitter account that MD TATA Motors Karl Slym passed away in Bangkok.Shocking! That is a big jolt to TATA. May he R.I.P. Here is the link of the news: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ta...bangkok-475636

What a sad news! R.I.P

Tata will have a hard time finding his successor.

Does anyone know how he died?

OMG,Thats really Shocking... RIP Karl Slym.

Great loss for Tata Motors and the larger motoring community, who Karl Slym has helped several times over. Very sad. Tata would have had a chance of transformation under his leadership..

(self edited the cause.)
those who know him will attest that probably for the first time tml got a man who was passionate about automobiles. he took a hands on approach. never failed to send a greeting massage on festivals. both he and his wife indophile to the core. such a waste.
this is a huge huge setback for tml. his team needs all the moral support right now. short term impact on autoexpo and certainly t1 racing which was his baby.
rip karl.

OMG!!! This really tragic, and DEEPLY saddening. :(

A warm and amazing person, so humble and so extremely diverse in his views. Just spoke with him a few days ago when he said theres more pioneering stuff coming our way from Tata Motors.

Hands are shivering as I type this. Really sad. :(

When he joined TaMo, he'd visited every factory and dealer - his typical hands on approach to figure what the end issues could be. He was the ONLY person from the Auto industry to have called upon the end consumers and personally meet them asking what they'd want.

Still remember myself thanking him for his time at the foyer at Bombay House.

Details here.

Oh man, that is bad news, CEO's with both passion and smarts are hard to find in the auto industry. This was probably TML's only hope of redemption. I hope he was able to do enough in his time, and that his work will bear fruit soon!

This is so sad, he was only 51. Slym seems to have fallen from a higher floor of a hotel in Bangkok. Shocking!

He was one of the few good things that happened to indian auto sector. Really tragic, his hands on approach and customer focus both at gm and tata motors was what the industry needed.

Rip

Can't help but wonder how is Tata motors going to take forward the initiatives kick started by him as they were still in initial stages. Tough time for his family and company both.

shocking just 51 so dynamic and a joy to talk to.
