Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

The Maruti Pavilion:

These were all over the place. Good way to generate leads of prospective customers. I'm guessing they're given to a call center / dealerships for followup later:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

The Japanese Swift Sport. It's got more than just a fancy paint job:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-1.jpg

Under the hood sits a 1.6L VVT petrol with 134 BHP (@ 6,900 rpm) & 160 Nm of torque! Transmission is a 6-speed MT. Maruti says they're 'considering feedback' on the car before a launch decision is taken:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-1a.jpg

The build quality was something else. Felt substantially more premium than the Indian Swift:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-2.jpg

Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-3.jpg

Rear discs:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-4.jpg

Clean rear end with twin pipes:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-5.jpg

The interior quality was so much superior to the Indian Swift too:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

I'm a huge fan of clean, understated designs. The Ciaz (pronounced as: chi-aaz) full-size sedan concept greatly appealed to me:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-1.jpg

If this is the design direction of future Maruti sedans, then
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-2.jpg

There's a lot in common with the YL1 (related thread):
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-3.jpg

The Ciaz was first displayed in China as the "Authentics" concept:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

The Celerio wears safe & conservative clothes. Nothing too radical. Looks like a Maruti hatchback and nothing else:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-1.jpg

I like the front-end treatment:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-2.jpg

6 petrol variants - four with a Manual gearbox and two with the Automated Manual Transmission. Interestingly, the AMT is available on the base variant, thus making it more accessible:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-3.jpg

Wheelbase of 2425 mm:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-4.jpg

What the latest generation Alto should've been (instead of the facelifts we get). The Celerio nameplate isn't new; Maruti has used it for the A-Star (7th gen Alto) internationally:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-5.jpg

Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-6.jpg

Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-6a.jpg

Bumper doesn't protrude out as much. Expect to see a lot of Celerios with dented hatches:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-7.jpg

Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-8.jpg

Ribbed roof section. Necessary to bring rigidity to a light roof:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-8a.jpg

Nice straight-forward dash. Gearshift mounted up on the center console:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-11.jpg

Interior quality is typical Maruti:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-11a.jpg

Legroom like any other small hatch. Front seats get integrated neck restraints:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-12.jpg

Maruti is doing an "A-Star" with the pricing. For what should have been the new Alto, the MT variants are ridiculously priced. The difference to the vastly superior Ritz is hardly anything, especially considering the discounts available on the car. The only saving grace here is the AMT's pricing, but certainly not the MT:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-12a.jpg

Updated version of the WagonR's 3-cylinder petrol. ARAI rating of 23.1 kpl!
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-13.jpg

Maruti's AMT:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-14.jpg

Has an intelligent Shift Control Actuator, an electric-hydraulic actuator that automatically performs clutch and gearshift operations:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-15.jpg

AMT combines the actuator and controller and directly mounts them in the transmission:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-16.jpg

AMT offers full-automatic as well as manual driving modes:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

The SX4 S-Cross has a high likelihood of being launched in India:
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-1.jpg

Available with an AWD system (Suzuki AllGrip):
Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014-2.jpg

Looks like a taller hatchback than an SUV. The Duster / Terrano have a more appealing stance:

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

Maruti had a lot of customised cars on display. Listed below are the noteworthy ones:

Classic example of how subtle mods can greatly enhance the looks:

Awful lower bumper treatment. Likeable otherwise:

Sweet looking Ertiga:

Most of the Omni's customers are from the commercial sector. Maruti showing just one of the many uses of this Van:

Now this is one car from Suzuki I would love own. I hope they get enough positive feedback to make a decision to launch it in India. A 136bhp petrol 6MT with airbags all around, and all the safety acronyms included, it is indeed a compelling package.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

Great report GTO! Was waiting for this one since last two days!

Noticed that the B pillars of the Celerio on the 'V' and even the 'Z' trims aren't smoked out, like most others from the stable, which IMO is bringing down the character a little bit.
But I anticipate, its going to be a hit; with the AMT especially!

I would love to have the 1.6 l, 120bhp, 320 Nm Fiat MultiJet version launched. The styling is a bit lacklustre but the engine specs look good. Plus the practical side of a good boot space. The car has potential for a sleeper.

Maruti has my vote. However they might just have missed the boat by a few years with rides like the VW Polo TSi on the block.

If the YL7 is anything like the Ciaz with a good engine they have a potential good product.

No sign of the XA Alpha. Kind of hoped that Maruti would provide some concept or design.

Drive on,
Shibu.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

Fantastic thread GTO, just a couple of questions though. The Ciaz seems to be rather large in the pictures, did it come across as a D segment car or the SX4 replacement? Also what did you feel about the WagonR mpv displayed? Thanks.

I am definitely with you on those points. At times, when you keep it simple and minimal, it looks great!!!

Yes, I thought it could have had a better price-point, especially owning a ZXi / ZXi (O) variant of Celerio needs a lot of justification (no AMT here) when you have other value for money cars in Maruti's own stable and a few others outside the stable too.

I would have put the AMT in the Z variant too or from V variant and upwards!

Just wondering how the Ritz on display would look like with the Toyota Etios Crossover like treatment and dual colors!

On a separate note, I recall reading somewhere couple days ago, that there would be an LWB WagonR on display. Was that not the case?

Thanks,
C_

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

Was waiting for this thread ever since Ciaz and SX4 cross pics came out.

Was expecting XA alpha to be on display, atleast an updated concept since they had put one for display in last auto show.

Cheap looking boot lid knob in Celirio and strangely in the pic above door knobs are body colored while the boot lid knob is not.

Re: Maruti @ Auto Expo 2014

3 cars that did excite me here - Swift Sport (), Ciaz and the Gypsy. The Swift Sport if launched with that kind of specified config would be an outright winner! It would be just fantastic, to rev that petrol engine hard through all 6 gears! Ciaz looks classy, I feel it would look even better in lighter paint shades and the black alloys. The Gypsy too, if launched like that would be a hit amongst the 4x4 fraternity. A good job by Maruti overall, I am really hoping they get that Swift Sport out here in the Indian market.
