But unlike the other launch editions, this would be a mighty expensive one

I foresee Mercedes and Audi gaining high on BMW with CLA and A3 respectively.

Have seen the G class for quite some time. Every time I see that remember its poor cousin or say a design rip off aka our very own Sumo especially from the front. Wonder when will they launch the G class in our market.

If you meant to say Mercedes G class copied Sumo's design then you are completely wrong. The G class has not changed much design wise ever since its first production in 1979. It is one of the very few vehicles which has stayed true to its original design besides Porsche. Tata was the one which copied its design for the Sumo. In fact Mahindra Bolero also copied some design elements from the G class. It has been on sale in India for exactly 3 years now since its first introduction in Feb 2011.

I think he was talking the opposite...

Sumo is surely a rip-off, can't say that about the Bolero esp. with its Jeep DNA.

And you forgot to mention Force Gurkha; not the current 4x4x4x4x4, but the circa 2008 model. Here's a pic from our forum:

Re: Mercedes-Benz @ Auto Expo 2014

The GLA looks so rich which is very typical Mercedes. Sure to convert customers from Q3, X1 and even the entry luxury sedans.

The normal CLA will definitely make it to our shores since that is the only way Mercedes can take the fight to the Audi A3 after successfully overtaking BMW.

Booking for Mercedes-Benz GLA and S-350 CDI commence

German automobile manufacturer Mercedes has started accepting bookings for it's upcoming SUV which will be a competitor for Audi's Q3 and BMW's X-1. The car is set to launch in the festive season and is currently only available with the 2.2 L Diesel engine that'll be shared with the A and B class hatchbacks. The engine however has been tuned for greater performance, i.e 167 BHP.

It'll be interesting to see how Mercedes performs in this segment. Majority of Audi's sales come from the Q-3 SUV, and has made it the leader in the trio. BMW's X-1 too sold fairly well during it's inception, however poor pricing in the updates caused the sales to dip, and perhaps took the top spot away from the Bavarian car manufacture.

Mercedes had performed decently with it's hatchbacks the A class and the B class. Our love for SUVs may change the fortunes for Mercedes, and might make it the leader, as it used to be.

Mercedes' flagship model the S-Class entered our shores some time back, but only in it's petrol avatar. This time around, Mercedes has started accepting booking for the CKD locally manufactured Diesel variant of the S- Class. It is priced at around 1.25 Crores. The S-Class is definitely the most advanced car in it's segment right now. However it is priced a fair bit more expensive than the competition. With the locally manufactured Jaguar XJ-L priced at 92 lakh, the A6 segment is really booming, after a lot of stagnation.

The price of the car has not been revealed, but a booking amount of 50,000 is being taken. Expect the car to be priced in between 26-30 lakh rupees.

Cheers!

A Mercedes dealer said 40L on road for the GLA to me. He is very senior and generally very accurate.

Re: Booking for Mercedes-Benz GLA and S-350 CDI commence

If memory serves, the ML 250 was being sold for 42 lacs. If MBIL prices the car above 30L, they will alienate themselves from the target aspirational buyer, wanting to pay a bit more than a Toyota/ Renault/ Nissan product.

Re: Booking for Mercedes-Benz GLA and S-350 CDI commence

They have been taking bookings for quite some time now. It has just gone to the media recently.

We are awaiting the delivery of 2 W222 S350 CDI's in June End.
We booked our cars sometime in Jan in Palladium Silver and Diamond White. Our's will be the first 2 S350 CDI's of the city.
The dealer has given an estimated pricing of 1.2-1.3cr on road.

Meanwhile, 5 S350 CDI's have already been booked at the Cal MB dealer.

The GLA will be having a pricing of 40-45 lakhs. 3 GLA's have already been booked at the Cal MB dealer.

This is how both our S350 CDI's should be looking. Those ugly wheels sure do ruin the beauty of such a wonderful car.
