But sadly none of the AMT vehicles come with airbags (Celerio, Zest). Not the old Swift Dzire Automatic and Grand i10 AT also.

Re: Automated Manual Transmission (AMT): The new buzz in India

Going till 2020 is a huge time frame to add AMT
I feel immediate is to have a small/Medium sized car which nowhere looks like indica

How zest/bolt has some visual effects carried from indica and atleast few buyers will backout despite of having advance features or improvement done for these cars.

Thanks
Arun

Yes but these are not the low end AMT being referred here but proper automatics.

Re: Automated Manual Transmission (AMT): The new buzz in India

With the runaway success of AMT, now a slew of options by manufacturers other than Magneti Marelli which is still the most dominant supplier of the AMT unit .

Bosch is working on an eClutch technology that automates the clutch system allowing the vehicle to be driven like an automatic car. According to sources in the automobile industry, the eClutch automates only the clutch, not the entire transmission system, and is cheaper compared with the conventional technology

Though a bit late, Hyundai's i10 to debut the AMT shortly. Will update their products with AMT in a phased manner.

Maruti offering 10 year or 1.6 lakh Kms warranty on the AMT mechanism of Celerio and ALTO K10.

Any updates on whether Tata offering the same on Zest AMT ? I am expecting Tata also to give warranty since both Maruti and Tata source the AMT from same company.

Though components are the same it is the level of confidence in the Engineering of the powertrain, the company has, that matters.

Since Maruti has sent a bench mark for warranty of AMT, it is now for Tata to meet or beat this.

Re: Automated Manual Transmission (AMT): The new buzz in India

This may sound odd but AMT will have a catastrophic effect for the car enthusiast. The next generation may not know what gear-shifting was!

The next-generation Indian will miss the adrenaline of a slick gear change at the perfect RPM. As a new driver, I relished the moment when I made the right gear change at the right RPM.

Just imagine a swift highway overtake endeavor with the AMT on a swift Diesel. That would be hilarious! Who would downshift at the opportune moment for you then?

And what about the experience of taking the Engine to a higher RPM to hear the roar!

What would you do with that left hand and left leg?

The joy of driving would be ruined!

But yes, I may be wrong-

Imagine after a long day's work you are returning home and are stuck in peak traffic with thousands of cars infront of you and moving at a snail's pace. Gear shifting would make you mad. Your left ankle would ache so badly.

You've answered your own question. The Voices were same when Computers were introduced. Now, we can't live without Computers around us. 95% of North American & Middle East Cars are AT's.

With the growing Traffic in Congested City's, the driving enthusiast has already lost interest in pursuing his passion. So, this is the way forward. At least in the Metro's.

Re: Automated Manual Transmission (AMT): The new buzz in India

Hi,

Does anyone know which Indian companies are manufacturing AMT gear boxes for the OEMs. Magenti Marreli is not the only one as someone mentioned above. Bosch is present. I have read Lumax Auto Technologies with technical collaboration from Mannoh Industrials, Japan are in the fore front.

http://www.vccircle.com/news/enginee...ar-shift-lever

Looks like Mannoh has Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Nissan, Mazda etc as clients.

Any idea on which company is best placed to reap benefits from the AMT wave?

Cheers

Vindy

Fait Group's Magneti Marelli has a joint venture with Maruti Suzuki to manufacture AMT systems - Maruti introduced AMT in February with the Celerio hatchback.

Bosch’s eClutch system is another form of automated system and is under test.
(link below)

ZF is too another source for AMT system.

A Swift Diesel with an AMT will be the best thing that ever will happen to a Maruti. I can imagine YEARS and YEARS of waiting period for this thing. 26+ARAI mileage currently on the Diesel Swift, the convenience of an Automatic + a Plus/Minus option to shift manually when you are n those Lonavala Ghats on the Mumbai - Pune expressway, add a sweet paddle shifter behind the steering wheel (You can after market add it if Maruti does not give it as an option). Life is MADE BLOOD, MADE !

PS: The hair on my hand just stood up imaging and typing this post of a Swift Diesel with an AMT.

Slightly OT, Wabco and Eaton are some of the few suppliers of AMTs for commercial vehicles in India. For example, Wabco supplies AMTs for the Ashok Leyland Boss.
