Re: Budget 2014 - Car prices to come down due to reduction in Excise Duty!

Prices for the Volkswagen Polo have been reduced by Rs 18,000-Rs 31,000, while Vento's prices have been reduced by Rs 14,500-Rs 27,000. Jetta prices have been reduced by Rs 38,000-Rs 51,000.

Looks like auto companies will not pass on complete benefit to customers since they are already operating on thin margin. The trend could be that we will get to see higher price cut on hatchback and comparatively lower price cut on sedan.

Maruti website is being updated

Maruti is updating the price given in its website, as per the reduced rates. Hope to see it within a couple of hours. As of now it shows "no records found"

This should not come as a shock as 1.35 lacs would be for the top end variant of Santa Fe which was launched recently at a price of 29.25 lacs.

As per new slabs, there is a 6% cut on excise tax for SUVs and hence this steep cut.

M&M now has the revised prices for XUV5OO.
I could not find the updated prices for Verna yet. Has anyone checked? Could be the case of studying whats happening with the Honda CITY.

Yes I checked for the Verna as well and its not in the list. I think this is good opportunity for Hyundai to provide a competitive pricing on the Verna since it just lost the segment leadership spot for Jan to the Honda City...

Just received word from both dealer and Manager at Honda that prices will be reduced from 17K to 25K depending on variant, which is not the whole 4% according to me but still its something I guess.

The same will be confirmed to us by evening and this will roll out publicly I am guessing from tomorrow.

Honda as I understand have not invoiced any cars since yesterday and will start today. Preexisting stock will also be covered under this reduction.

One more thing as the sticker price goes down so does the Registration amount and the Insurance. Please check if they have reduced yours. They were reluctant to reduce insurance for us but when we threatened to walk away they complied.

For reference, the present ex-showroom cost of i-DTEC EMT is 6.19 Lacs.
Thats almost 22k more than what the new price will be.

Why would you still want to buy a Skoda, even after all the threads on this website?

Any idea on what impact this downward revision of excise duty would have on the pricing of Toyota Fortuner.
