Exactly!! Mahindra (although I am not a great fan of the brand) has my money if we can see an XUV with an auto box at a reasonable price and better interiors. My friend's recent purchase of a W6 has changed the perception I had on the car. I am looking at upgrading to a SUV or a compact SUV, but certainly with an auto.

But possibility of an even more powerful engine with automatic is likely to take off the benefits of the diesel cost savings.

So far as my knowledge goes Mahindra has already launched Automatic XUV in Algeria. I am not aware of the finer details such as 5 speed or 6 speed auto box and engine power being beefed up to 170 bhp or so. Hence guys with better knowledge can through some more light on the facts. However my concern is when in India. I have been waiting since the launch of XUV for an automatic variant and my booking amount is still lying with the dealer.
Mahindra seems to have solved quite a few niggles that XUV threw in the few months preceding the launch and now with an auto box it should be a niggle free auto SUV south of 18 lakhs. Hence sooner the better and I should be one of the first few to pick one. It will fall within my budget and being feature loaded fulfil all my requirements. Come on Mahindra you can do it sooner than 2015.

Considering the test mules , are there any chance XUV Automatic will be launched anytime soon ? Or the launch will be sometime in mid 2015 as predicted ?

I am planning to buy an XUV . If an automatic variant will be launched in 2014 , I think it is worth the wait.

On 20 May 2014, I saw a white Mahindra XUV 500, bearing a temporary registration of MH, stickers pasted on the rear window with rear bumpers removed and some gadgets fitted, probably AT version, was being test-driven on the Kothagiri-Ooty SH, when I rode to Ooty. I could not click photos because it was raining. During my return journey a few hours later, I saw the same vehicle driven towards Ooty. The test mule resembled the one shown in the photograph in the link.

Yes infact they are denying about having any news even for a facelift of xuv let alone an automatic, maybe they are really strict about not disclosing any such informations, though facelifted xuv's are been spotted many times, i am waiting myself eagerly to know if its going to be an automatic,if any bhpian has an update would be highly appreciated.

While i hope that the Auto does come, it should also be offered on the W6 variant. Only placing it as a W8 + Auto will probably take it quite north in terms of price

As per today's Autocar update:

Mahindra will also bring in the updated XUV500 very soon. Apart from cosmetic tweaks on the outside, it is expected to come with an Aisin six-speed gearbox. With the Aisin auto gearbox mated to the capable 2.2-litre mHawk motor, the XUV500 could have good potential in several international markets too.

Saw an XUV with camouflage on Tindivanam - Chennai section of NH 45 two weeks back.

This is not the refresh version, spy pics of which are already out. My guess is that it was automatic version under test.



Notice the drill holes at middle of rear bumper. There were pics of Scorpio earlier with measurement units mounted on a step kind of set up on rear bumper, guess these holes were for similar mountings.



The vehicle had a numbering near C pillar.

Got confirmation from a dealer in Bangalore, there is a W10 variant expected. However NO automatic transmission to be launched on May 25 :-(

If you have the sources to dig out details about this, please do. I am waiting for the automatic to launch as well.

Here's what Siddharth Vinayak Patankar had to say about the automatic in his review:

I would have liked to see Mahindra offer an automatic variant right from word go on the upgrade.

That is a miss, because there is potential there to capture a growing demand for an auto box. But Mahindra engineers I spoke to promise me that a modern and capable automatic gearbox is coming our way very soon. I expect that variant to debut around the festive season, or at most the Delhi Auto Expo in February next year.
