Hey Shuvc,

have two baleno's one has done about 85 K ,driven regularly on highways and plus a lot of airport duty , no work on the suspension uptil now .

the others done about 55 K and ditto on the suspension front , so my guess is you should not face any problems whatsoever

That brings me to another point. When do most people carry out suspension work? I've been in a freinds car with absolutely worn shocks which caused the car to bounce all over the place, but he said it was perfectly fine!

Well I got the suspension in my Ikon done completely at 95k kms (this coincided with second tyre change as well), this was when we started feeling the bumps & damaged road surfaces a little strongly. Workshop also recommended that we get it done (car goes for services every 10k km when they check everything out so.......). Car was 4 years old

I would say that 95k kms is good considering that we've always gone on one trip to the mountains every year through roads that are not always well tarmaced & smooth and call for the occasional "off-road" acrobatics as well

Well at times very recent i do hear some problematic sounds coming from the suspension .. But its only AT TIMES .. Will be dropping the car is for the 3rd service this weekend will get it checked out .. Have a funny feeling the bushes are worn out a bit owing to track days , some rally driving (almost) and some spirited driving AT times ..

well i had an esteem till this feb, done almost 90 k and there was no work done in its suspension . and the rest the cars ie swift too young and so is the innova. the accent which i got has not given any suspension problems till now at 50 000 km. so i dont know when must one change.

If I lived in a major metro like Delhi with nice roads, I expect my suspension to last me 100K with maintenance and minor work.
Otherwise, living in a B-class town with terrible roads.....lets say 50K. Otherwise somewhere in between.

Of course, springs never wear out, so its usually rubber parts like bushes, strut mounts and shocks. Sometimes ball joints and roll bar attachments.

Lots of times, rattling is caused by various interior bits coming loose and people blame the suspension.

Also point to note, low profile tires will transfer more load to the suspension and body. So modded cars will see more wear.

I had a viva before drove total of 30000 km in 2 years had changed the shock absorber 3 times, Thanks god it was under warrenty. Right now having swift no problem till now. Earlier have driven zen and 800 , did not had any major problem with them..........

My 800 suspension packed up at 45000 km.Oil was leaking from both the front shock absorbers so got the shocks changed+lower arms+steering arms.The left side axle packed up at 58 thousand km so got that changed too.About the driving it was always spirited with cutting corners and harsh turns accompanied by highway trips at 120s and 130s always with no care whatso ever for tyres or life.This was when i was a kid after which maturity set in and now drive the same 800 with atmost caution and even a small pothole makes me almost stop the car and proceed.

My Uno 1.2 ELX petrol suspension lasted me 55k with some really rough driving on broken tarmac about 10% of the time... rest of the tie the car was driven in hyd city..

Have a Baleno (20k) and a Santro (700 kms) right now...no work required on suspension on either of them....

My Ford Ikon's done 52k and the shocks/strut needs relacing. The rear seems okay but the front bounces over bumps. Anyway I decided to change all.

Will appreciate if anyone can tell me where I can get OE in Mumbai and the cost.

Another thing. Went to a local part dealer. He showed me shocks, said it imported from taiwan costing around INR.1100 per piece. Any comment on that? I'm not eager to go for unknown brand.

I've crossed 42K in my WagonR and all is ok with the suspension. But one thing that is disconcerting is that from 20K kms onwards, I get a cranking noise when I turn right with the steering in extreme right position--I remember getting such noise on my 800 at 55k kms. I think it is a drive shaft sound, but getting it at 20 K is surprising. It is not loud though, so I am managing with it.

baleno altura - used 35 % in city and the rest on highways - mostly state highways and about 5-10% ON THE INDIAN AUTOBAHNS !! changed the entire suspension except the coil springs at 100000 kms- had no problems till then.
I think its more to do with the superlative quality of the suspension components and the way you use the vehicle.

I think 50,000 kms is a reasonable life, and one that is true with most cars. You may drive beyond that but I doubt the suspension is really performing at an optimum level.

It's the shaft, better have it attended, could be serious.
