re: VW Vento Diesel Automatic... Update: Launched!

VW Vento 1.5 TDi with DSG would be a good upgrade from my current Vento with slick 5 speed manual. But VW would launch new Vento based on MQB in Q4 2015. Quite a quandary.
Hoping VW launches Vento DSG with 6 speed and not 7 speed DSG, otherwise we would have a detuned 1.5 TDi.

Seems like Skoda may launch the diesel dsg combo sooner. That's what autocar is reporting. That would be even better value given that it might be priced cheaper.

Don't hold your breath. MQB is in the works for the larger cars as of now and not expected to reach the subcompacts for quite a while. This article I found puts it as 2017 at a minimum before the MQB makes it to a Fabia or equivalent. A 2015 MQB-based Vento is not going to happen.

That's big news! I'd still be happier paying a premium for VW given the bad after sales experiences I've had and heard others have had.
On a related note, VW's automatic diesel launch can't be too far behind Skoda's launch.

Why detuned? The 7-speed DSG can handle 1.5 TDI's (104ps) 250Nm torque.

But wont it be operating at the limit 90% of the time, considering the 1.5 TDi 104ps makes 250 Nm from a low 1500 rpm - 2500rpm; which forms 90% usage for most people?

Only grudge would be all new Vento launch in Q4 2015 based on either MQB or PQ25 platform. Buying a car in Q4 2014 and in Q4 2015, you have a new model with new interiors and exteriors.

Torque generation in diesel is more violent, not the correct word to describe.

My analysis comes from VW Polo which comes with 1.6 TDi engine rated at 90 PS 230 Nm 1500-2500 rpm with 7 Speed DSG. 7 Speed DSG is capable of 250 Nm torque but not when working with diesel.

Should not be a problem I guess. The current 1.6 TDI & 7-DSG combination works well within the said range in many of VW small cars.

My reference is based on the exact same engine/output which is there in the current Vento.

Surprising to know (if what is being mentioned is true) that Skoda will launch the Diesel DSG Rapid before VW especially since even after almost an year of the Vento TSI there is no Rapid TSI

Confirmed news: The Vento will come with a 6 speed DSG, mated to the 1.5L TDI with 105 PS and 250 Nm.

Same source that had first revealed that 1.5 TDi is being readied for Polo few years ago.

Thanks, that's very useful indeed.
So far I have seen the combination of 1.6 TDI with 7-speed DSG for VAG cars, so just curious on the information that its going to be the 6-speed DSG for the Vento facelift (1.5 TDI).

I am sure it wont be 1.6TDI. Because there is a universal shift to the 1.5TDI. As regards to 6 speed or 7 speed, I dont know.
