BMW India rolls out locally assembled 3 Series GT

German luxury car maker, BMW has started rolling out the 3 Series GT from its facility located at Mahindra World City, Singaperumal Coil, Chennai.

The 3 Series Gran Turismo was launched in India at the 12th Auto Expo, which was held at Greater Noida in February 2014. It is priced at Rs. 42.75 lakh (ex-showroom across India). Link to Auto Expo Thread

The GT sports a sloping roofline that extends all the way to the end of the boot. The car is 200 mm longer, 16 mm wider and 79 mm taller than the 3 Series sedan. The wheelbase of the GT is longer than that of the sedan by 110 mm. The GT rides on 18-inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels, shod with 225/50 R18 tyres.

Standard equipment for the exterior includes bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRLs, frameless doors and an active rear spoiler.

The interior of the GT features a 40:20:40 split rear seat, panorama glass roof and more leg room than the sedan. The luggage capacity of the car is 520 litres, which can be increased to 1600 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Powering the 3 Series GT is a 1995 cc, 4-cylinder, TwinPower turbo diesel engine that develops 184 hp @ 4000 rpm and 380 Nm of torque @ 1750-2750 rpm mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

If you don't mind losing the sleek sedan looks, this car is an excellent option over the 3 series and even the 520d.

The rear legroom was superb. Very spacious with reclinable seats and then a massive massive boot. Thanks to height even ground clearance is better than the 3 and 5 over our roads.

I think they are unveiling it city by city perhaps. My SA invited me for the launch of the same on the 22nd. The car looks practical but somehow the exterior looks do not stand upto the sedan counterparts I feel.

There was a BMW launch this Monday in Kochi. Presume it is the 3GT. You must have spotted this car since sales haven't commenced yet from I heard.

Frameless doors , I'd buy it for the frameless doors. Don't know why, but ever since I've been a kid I've had this thing for frameless doors.
Although, I don't imagine many would be willing to shell out a premium for a bulbous rear. Exclusivity could play a role in the first few months though.

Re: BMW India rolls out locally assembled 3 Series GT

I saw this car parked near my office. Is this the new 3GT? or is this a 5GT?

From a distance it looked like a 3 GT to me and hence posting it here.

That's a 3 GT. The boomerang shaped vents/breathers on the side fenders are present only on the 3 series GT.

I recently saw one opposite to my office which had come to order number plates. Looked quite smashing I must say with the panaromic roof!!

It loses its sleek athletic look but I think rear seat passengers would love it.

Re: BMW India rolls out locally assembled 3 Series GT

Saw one in person yesterday, and I'd say I personally like it better than the 3-series sedan, for its practicality. Look good especially in white.

What I find appealing about the GT vs the sedan.
- It's more spacious, with apparently superb rear legroom.
- Bigger boot?
- Chic frameless doors
- Active rear spoiler
- Loaded, with panoramic sunroof et al
- Similar power and dynamics

All this for not much more. I'd seriously give it some thought before buying the seadn.

It is much better value, all you lose out on is the sunroof and the chrome and you gain sports seats and sport+ mode

The car also seems to lose real leather, and has sensatec instead. It also has the 18" wheels from the 328i.

On their configurator the price is listed as 41.9 lacs, which may have been put there by mistake and is what the price will probably go up to after the introductory offer is over.

Re: BMW India rolls out locally assembled 3 Series GT

Looks like a much better deal.
BMW sensatec is pretty good.
Sport looks much better than the chromefest luxury version.
Booked one. Delivery next week.
