I saw this Nano too on Pune Mahabaleshwar Highway on Dec 26, 2014 and attaching some pics herewith. The Tiny thing was cruising at over 120 Kmph

Does the AMT come with a 10-year or 160,000 km warranty? See this article:

Here is the relevant snippet:

But what is AMT and how does it enable Maruti to keep the price tag low? Usually, the price of an automatic variant is around Rs 95,000 higher than a manual one. In the Celerio, the price difference was just Rs 38,000. A similar pricing structure is being worked out for the Alto K10. AMT is not only an affordable feature, but it is also cheaper to maintain unlike the regular automatics. The K10 kit comes with a 10-year or 160,000-km warranty.

Tata needs to address 3 things to Nano to make it a complete car IMHO.

1 Silent engine. They have taken care of it to a certain extent but it still requires more refinement with silent sound, without any putter putter and vibrations.

2 Open able rear boot. It will make sure that it has proper boot to keep small luggage bags in the space it has got as a boot. Current Nano has to keep it from inside which is bad.

3 To fill petrol you need to open the bonnet !!! That's not at all acceptable. People feels it as a juggad kind of thing. It really feels bad on petrol pump to open bonnet. Tata should give proper petrol feeling option like other cars with bigger petrol tank, may be 20-22 liters is sufficient.

These changes will make Nano as a complete car.

And price it too close to proper car and kill the sales further? What they need to do is apply the cost learnings from the Nano project and use the same platform to create a new car on the lines of Tata Pixel with some unique features and sell it as a high quality, easy to drive city runabout without mentioning cheap anywhere.

The rear wheels on this one looks bigger, probably hints at a more powerful engine.

The Standard Nano is restricted to 105 or thereabouts but given the way the power starts trailing off, its unlikely for a standard Nano to cruise at over 120, so probably this also has a powerful engine.

But the question is,when?

We were at 120kmph when this overtook us and was gone in a swing..so had to be much faster :)

That definitely is a welcome news for someone like me. I want a more powerful Nano just for the sake of it, it will be a collectors/cult car for sure.

I'd certainly buy a "premium" Nano with concepts from the Europa, Pixel and Mega Pixel thrown into production and maybe the Kite's 1L diesel engine thrown as an option. 400k to 500k ex-showroom certainly is acceptable by me for a modern, safe, nimble smart car.

This probably is the first sighting of the long rumoured more powerful Nano. It was about four years ago when we heard about it first.

Come on, Tata! Please bring this to the market, at least, in 2015.

Pavan Mohan G shares a pic of this Nano spotted on the Pune - Bangalore Highway. What is that hump on the tail-gate?

Space re-organisation in the back to accommodate engine, AMT, (turbo also please:), and decent sized shape of boot?

Also curious is the fact that a Nano on test carries Coimbatore registration. Does it belong to a component maker, who is testing something on behalf of Tata Motors?

Jayem Automotive is a Tata Motors R&D company based in Coimbatore. You can find more details here:

Saw this Nano being tested at L&T bypass, Coimbatore on 23rd Dec 2014. The new headlight design looks good.

Is it just me, or are all the tyres the same size? (finally!)

Restricted is the key word here. It has been capable of more.
