Volkswagen rolls out 50,000th export car from Pune plant. EDIT: Now 2.5 lakhs

Volkswagen India has reached a milestone in exports. The company has rolled out its 50,000th export car from its plant at Chakan, near Pune. The jubilee export car is a left-hand drive Vento sedan, built for the Mexican market.

Volkswagen commenced its export business 2 and a half years ago with South Africa being the first country to be catered to. With time the export business has grown and now, the company ships its cars out to as many as thirty-two nations.

Besides the Vento, the Polo hatchback is also exported to various markets worldwide. Apart from completely built units, parts and components for the Vento and Polo are also built at the Chakan facility and exported to Malaysia, where they are assembled for the local market.

Volkswagen exports 2,50,000 th ‘Made in India’ car to Mexico .

Quote:
Volkswagen India, crossed another milestone when it exported its 2,50,000th India-made car to Mexico yesterday. The current range of cars being exported includes domestically-manufactured left hand drive Polo and Vento cars, with the latter witnessing high demand in the geography resulting in a steep incline in exports over the years.

The made-in-India Vento has become the third highest selling car in the entire passenger car market in Mexico and currently adds to the bulk of car exports by Volkswagen to this country at 2,10,000 unit. The Vento replaced the Jetta Classico in the Mexican market.
With Virtus and the NEW Polo not being made in India - Could the exports taper off in 2018?

According to the company, demand for the Polo and Vento in certain markets has been on the rise, with the latter being the third-highest selling model in Mexico. The country accounts for 80% of Volkswagen's total export volume. The company claims that more than half of the cars produced at its Chakan plant are exported to Mexico.

Volkswagen India started export operations in 2011 with South Africa being the first destination for its cars. At present, Volkswagen cars are shipped to more than 35 countries spread across North and South America, Asia and Africa. In 2016, we had reported that the company had exported 1,85,000 cars over the course of 5 years.
