H-Promise: New name for Hyundai's used car business

Korean carmaker, Hyundai has rebranded its used car business in India as H-Promise and brought it under the company's global used car programme. It was formerly known as Hyundai Advantage.

With H-Promise, the company aims to provide a one-stop solution to used car solutions. Hyundai has revamped its used car website, which gives customers an online platform for buying, selling and exchange of used cars. The company has 335 operational dealers in 225 locations across India. This network is expected to swell to 360 by the end of 2014.

Hyundai sold more than 15,000 certified used cars and recorded more than 70,000 exchange sales during CY 2013. For CY 2014, The company expects the number of certified vehicles sold to cross 18,000 and the number of exchanges to rise to 85,000.

Under the programme, Hyundai claims that it is offering used cars with no structural damage, refurbished with genuine spares and certified by the company with a warranty of 1 year or 20,000 km, whichever comes earlier on used cars. Two free services are provided.

For exchange customers, Hyundai claims that they are offering the best price and transparent 147 point evaluation, best deals on new cars with attractive exchange offers and assurance of the customer's car going into the right hands. Hyundai is also aiming to provide hassle-free transactions with flexible down payments and lower EMIs.

Hi Aditya, I see it as a sign of the times or India’s catch-up with the rest of the world. It is clear that the new cars are attracting lesser number of Indians each year, as they opt for used cars instead so the expectations of Hyundai can pretty much be met in this year. We all know that the new car sales are at a low and discounts are at an all-time high, forcing the government to step in with the remedies. Thus, the revamp of used car service by Hyundai has come at possibly the best time.

Aditya, As a personal view, I feel whether the new car sales go up or down, the used car business will see an upward trend mainly because the business is getting more organised very fast.

Thanks

Re: H-Promise: New name for Hyundai's used car business

After searching for a used automatic car in the market since May, I finally found a 2017 Hyundai Verna Diesel Automatic with a genuine 28K on the odometer at the Hyundai Promise dealership. The dealer offered a discount of Rs.50,000 plus free front bumper replacement with repainting and other minor refurbishments. The car was owned by a Doctor and used only for short drives, so the car is yet to be explored completely.

Please let us know the price you paid for it. I have the same car(2017 facelift SX Plus D AT) with similar mileage and would like to get an idea of the prices prevailing.

Re: H-Promise: New name for Hyundai's used car business

Hyundai dealers may offer 7.5 to 8 lakhs depending on tyres and battery condition. If you go for Spinny or CARS24, you may get 20% lesser price than Hyundai Promise. The current profit margin is up to 25% and lowest margin is 12-15% for diesel cars. CARS24 and Spinny buy high mileage cars from Hyundai and True Value dealerships and keep high margins. I would suggest to wait till December if you are planning to sell your car.
