Re: Ford India: The way forward!

A friend is looking for a Ford Ecosport with 1.5 Petrol engine to be kept for around 10 years. Is it recommended to go ahead considering Ford has done a partial exit? Will spares and service be a problem 5-10 years down the line?

Ford India is planning to launch the new / face lift of Ecosport along with a few other notable cars starting next year as per the following news article.

https://gaadiwaadi.com/ford-set-to-l...dia-next-year/

I would wait and watch how the Ford-Mahindra venture shapes up. In any case, spares won't be an issue as Ecosport has seen good success in India.

In any case, if your friend is planning to retain the car for atleast ten years (be it Ford or any other), it's better to see if there any new development in the EV world.

Anurag Mehrotra back in the driver’s seat at Ford India

A move in the right direction and clear indicator of Ford's intentions to continue (and further strengthen) its operations in India. Folks who were wary of Ford's future in India, need not fret anymore.

Promising signs I believe regarding Ford's future. Hope these new dealerships are getting started with an eye on the future. Now it would be great if we get some concrete message from the leadership regarding the new products and timelines.

As far as I know, these are not new. Sri Pawan ford has been opened almost since an year and has replaced the earlier 'noida ford' dealership and Adiv ford may be just another location of Adiv ford which has branches in Ghaziabad and Meerut already.

Re: Ford India: The way forward!

Ford India for the first time sold 1000+ Endeavours in March 2021. This is a promising sign.

I think they need to advertise more and improve their marketing skills.

At one time Ford India had a bad name in terms of service. The Endeavour now has the cheapest service among the cars in its range. eg. Fortuner, Gloster etc.

The lower products are also doing well. The Ecosport is manufactured in India and exported.

Keeping fingers crossed let's hope for a better Ford India future in this stagnant Indian market.

Definitely a good sign. Not only that, I read somewhere that the Ecosport sold more than 4000 units in March 2021, which is substantially higher than in the immediately earlier months. Their products are fantastic, and within reach of the common man. They just need to get their act together in offering relevant products and updating their existing ones.

Ford car sales in March 2021.

This is probably for the first time that Ford has sold more than 1000 Endeavours in a month since its launch in 2016.

Re: Ford India: The way forward!

Steven Armstrong has been appointed as the transformation officer for South America and India, effective May 1. For India, his role is to lead evaluation of capital allocations to India.
Anurag Mehrotra, MD of Ford India, will directly report to him.

He previously led the Changan Ford JV in China for 18 months, which is now turning out to be profitable again for Ford, thanks to the addition of China specific products like the Equator, newly unveiled Evos and Lincoln Zephyr.

He's been with Ford for 34 years, having different roles. Looks like he figured out how to crack the Chinese market, which is crucial for most automakers. I hope he can do something similar for our market too.

Ford are clearly at the crossroads. Too many stop-starts in their India story. Either stay or pack up and leave. Not another half-hearted effort.

I see this as a positive move. Overall for Ford, with manufacturing and development in Brazil now closed, India is the perfect location to lead the BX car development. If they decide to exit India as well, then their whole B car platforms are at risk. There is no other region that can take this up without additional investment.

Additionally Ford India has already proven it's capability in manufacturing with exports to developed markets like the US and with the PLI scheme this would make even more sense for Ford to maximize exports. Maybe make the Bronco in India and reduce the 2 year waiting period for the US as well as launch it here (*wishful thinking*)
