Santro 1.1 Crdi ???

Guys,

"The Hindu" today says that a Santro 1.1 Litre Crdi is to be launched in 2007. Its engine is the Accent Crdi's engine less one cylinder. It churns out 75 bhp .

Overall economy is said to be 20 kmpl.

DO you guys have any more info on this?

Rayden.

The Accent CRDi is already a three cylinder unit that means according to The Hindu Santro will have 2Cyl 1.1 ltr CRDi? Are they sure about this??? Bit difficult to digest.

If its 75bhp Then its gonna churn out 150Nm of torque too that will cause too much of traction problems.....

Sure its gonna b some car if hyundai manage to do it....

Hyundai wont be using the older crdi engines any longer. They are replacing the detroit diesel line with "Hyundai crdi engines"

That is truely awesome for a Xing. If the weight does not increase significantly from that of the old Xing or ZipDrive, the new Santro will be a genuine supercar for its class. Considering that I have hit 160 kmph in my old Santro, I don't see any reason why the new model shouldn't hit 190-200 kmph -- surely an unsafe speed for the Santro. I suspect that Hyundai will electronically limit the vehicle's speed. I will be well and truly tempted to book this vehicle, but there is bound to be a long waiting list for it.

I think it will make more sense if Hyundai gives the 3Cyl CRDi engine in to a Getz, i am sure their sales will sour.

Well, Indians love diesel...so I guess their sales will not sour.

But there could be a problem if the asking price is as high as 4.7 lakhs as reported by Autocar. thats nearly a lakh more than the highest version petrol!

I agree with you islero. Plonking heavier diesels in cars that sell exclusively for their entry-level price points is not a good idea. Paying 1 lakh more for a diesel car over its petrol version, in any segment-particularly in the entry-level segments, in simply not VFM in terms of Returns On Investment.
