Nowadays, everyone are bragging about Fiesta about it's VFM, engine and so and so. This type of fuss also elicited when the Ikon was first launched in India. And the Ikon sold in good numbers when compared to other sedans of similar price points.

But after about 40,000 KMS or after 2 to 3 years people are queueing up to sell off their Ikons and it commands a poor resale value in the 2nd hand market because of it's high running costs & poor engine. Even the 2 year old Ikons are put up for sale for a mere 2.5 lakhs !!! :Shockked:

I'm asking will the Fiesta meet with the same doom as Ikon since no-one knows about the long life prospectus of Fiesta ?

I know about the pros of Ikon(every variants) and it's a good driver's car and also very compact for city driving in addition to it's good looks. But like most of the Indians I'm not a big fan of American cars.

lol: I don't want to indulge in any verbal abuses/flame wars with regard to this matter...

Hi Mithun,

When ikon was launched, it was much hyped and ford guys realized that they are not selling well; soon after Hyundai CRDi was launched. Again Fusion was a BIG drag.

Scene with Fiesta is different. FORD kept the Launch very secretive, having records for more than 7 lak TEST kms (I dont know how far it's true) in Australia. And Fiesta is a car, as they say MADE 4 India.

We have to wait and watch. Seriously i have no idea what's DURA.

Already we have seen the power of 82 PS, 3 CYL CRDi engine on Indian roads. And Fida comes with a 68 PS CRDi one.... Also they claim that, FORD has done enough research on the same.

Time is the answer....

The 1.4 petrol and the Tdci are the Fiesta's trump cards, although even I have a doubt how long the cars will retain their value, considering no Ford sold in India has beene specially good in depreciation....

First, when the Ikon came out, Ford did not have to try too hard to encourage people to change up from Esteems

Second, the Ikon platform was already ageing although current during release and barely two years later replaced by the current platform. Although a better driving machine, it never got the edge compared to the accent released within a few weeks of the Ikon - Accent was priced compettitively but never felt cheap

Third - parts and service - we know the story

Four - leadership - Ford have had approximately 4 MD's since setting up ops each one has a diffeent strategy so no ownership

Five - being strong in a segment. Maruti, hyundai and telco have defined and been strong in their segments and not tried to expect dominant market shre in new segments immediately. Ford were also ran in the C segment and tied for the mondy, fusion, endevour segments which are small.

Six - product maintenance - 1.6 fiesta fine, endura 1.3c was a dog, sent people running to an accent GVS. Viva /GTX tornado with visible additions like dohc/abs to attract newer customers. fod just slapped alloys and a few stickers to give an sxi. Hyundai add a compentnet diesel. Ford provide an old nail

coming to the Fiesta - everything is current - great diesel. W can only wait and see and hope that their service improves

Ford's weakness worldwide is their inexperience in making new affordable cars for developing markets. They've done a great job in Europe manufacturing cars more European than European brands themselves.

This relative lack of knowledge and experience by Ford in making, positioning and marketing entry-level sedans in India contributes largely towards Fords lower market esteem and hence lower resale value.

Unlke Japanese cars, American cars are never meant to last for ever. :D
Of course Fiesta will be better than Ikon [Ford learnt lots in India] but still they will have lower resale values.

Poor service quality and high maintenance costs are definitely not what a consumer looks in a car. Ford makes pretty good cars but they dont have a good service backup to sustain them atleast here in India. Same goes for Fiat also. Very good cars but cant buy due to the poor service quality. Might be improving now though.

The new Accent CRDI has every chance to spoil the party of Diesel Fiesta as per initial reports. It's gonna be the fastest car in the segment even more powerful than the Octavia. Worldwide, Ford is under serious financial problems but the sad part is they're not doing enough for that.

Dont bank on it. The Ikon is still selling very well indeed, especially in its 1.3 Rocam avatar.

Rather premature question don't you think? The Ikon is yet to meet its doom so to speak and it has been on the market for over 6 years now, the Fiesta is like 6 months.......

Fusion: will start to make sense if they can reduce the price by 2 L
Mondeo: our fellow TBHPian -Steeroid- owned one. I hope he will answer this.
Endo: open the hood of one and compare it with Tucsan or Terracan. One will understand it immediatly.

Fully agree with that.

seeing the number of fiesta's on the road (90% of the time its the diesel)
Ford shouldn't be worrying about the sales... what say??

That holds good only in south here mostly i see is the 1.4 or 1.6....

I know two owners of the Fiesta diesel. Both are regretting their purchase. Why? In one case the fan assembly conked within 6 months and the spares are not available. 3 weeks have passed and the dealer has no clue. In the second case the car sprung an oil leak within 2 months. Both were inclined to go in for the NHC ZX till they heard about the FE of the TDCi. Now both are saying that though the FE is good, they would have still preferred the NHC. "Made for India"..and you can't get spares...and no "right first time". That is why I say time and again that the Japs are ahead.

Today's Fiesta ad. in Times Of India, Bangalore (Pg 3) CLAIMS that Fiestas were the largest selling cars in that segment for the period between Jan and May this year. Could this be true? (They claim around 1600 vehicles in 5 months)

Here we go with the generalizations again.....is this the only make/model that you have heard of a oil leak happening??? Or is the fan assembly likely to never get replaced? I know of one where the Fiesta had a major accident and the fan assembly was replaced so....what are we generalizing here?

How about this for a generalization that the Japs are not ahead lol

Is it the Japs or Americans or Europeans or is it a local issue? Much like a tail pipe falling off a Civic test car wouldn't you say?
