The Mercedes-Benz CLA 45 AMG sedan has been spotted in Mumbai. While it is difficult to say whether this is a display car or a privately owned vehicle, we might recall that Mercedes-Benz displayed the model at the 2014 Auto Expo, earlier this year. The company hinted then, that it would launch the car in India in the third or fourth quarter of 2014.

The CLA 45 AMG is powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine that produces a 360 hp and 450 Nm of torque, which the company claims can propel the car from 0 to 100 kph in 4.5 seconds and a limited top speed of 250 kph. The car has an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission and a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

To distinguish the CLA 45 AMG from the regular CLA, Mercedes has given it different bumpers, grille, wheels and badging. Coming to the interior there is an AMG steering wheel, instrument cluster and racing seats. Additionally, the CLA 45 AMG is loaded with equipment and safety & drive assist features.

The CLA 45 AMG could be the most affordable Mercedes-Benz AMG model when it goes on sale in India.

The car is said to be launched this year in India. Mumbai opens is exclusive AMG showroom this month and i am guessing the CLA 45 AMG would be displayed there.

Is it me or it's just too low for Indian roads? Does it come with ride height adjustments?

The rear suspension is sitting quite low, the tires are almost touching the wheel arches. I dont think that is normal!

Met a dealership owner the other day and he said that the CLA wont come in before next year and they are expecting a pre Diwali launch for the GLA. The GLA he said would be around 40L !! I was hoping for a 30L price range for the GLA and around 28 for the CLA. Well thats wishful thinking i guess. The current A Class costs 30L on road delhi.

I think the car that is spotted is a personal import. Apart from the obvious reasons (no masking of logos), I don't think MBIL will even consider testing the car with low profile tyres. Why test something that is already impossible to implement?

Agreed. Plus, the CLA 45 will be a direct CBU import with no local changes whatsoever. There's no point in testing anything.

They may be testing the engine to see if it works fine on our fuel. The other AMGs pretty much share the 5.5l V8 (this 2.0 has a higher bhp output per litre than the 5.5 I think), and considering this will be the cheapest AMG which will probably sell the most it would be prudent on their part to test the engine here.

The day I saw the CLA 2014 at the auto expo the first thing i said to myself was that this is going to be my next car.

Why are they not launching the non AMG version ?

I had heard the non AMG would be around 25-30 lakhs and so would fit my budget.

Is there any news on that front?

Also what happened to the EU deal that was supposedly going to allow 50000units at a lower duty?

This could be a personal import or maybe some Merc executive using the ex-Auto Expo car for his personal transport.

CLA 45 AMG is expected to launch by June-July and will cost approx 75 lakh.

Non-AMG CLA to come later this year by Nov-Dec.

Searching for CLA 45 AMG on Zauba website shows that the car has been imported in February 2014 for homologation.

Do note that basic cost is only Rs 15.77 lakhs.

According to Motorbeam , the CLA 45 AMG will be launched in July with a price tag of approximately Rs 85 lakhs!
