re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Supro? What were they smoking when they thought of that name.

The core rural market may go "wa, bolero ka super model. Supero". But other than that, Supro?
They could have atleast named it after the Invader or many of their old name plates.

Or like @simplyself told, a good manly Indian name would have been better, instead of this name.

EDIT: is it supro or supero? The latter sounds better IMO

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

Rule no. 1 for Indian OEMs:

Please don't spoil existing vehicles by trying to down size them under a 4M length bracket (eg. Bolero/Quanto/Baby Bolero etc) and installing punny engines in them to sell us Indians the SUV dream.

For the record, EcoSport/Duster/Quanto and other crossovers are NOT SUVs. Instead they are wannabe me too SUV!

MM should evolve on the current Bolero and make it a better vehicle rather than spoil it.

It is the "go every where vehicle" and just needs two engine specifications, one for the rural audience and the other for enthusiasts with higher power and 4WD.

For the urban audience, the Scorpio is already there.

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

The Bolero U301 (or Supro, as it's named now) was caught testing on the streets of Chennai by the Motoroids team.

The Supro looks to have commanding road presence, and was reported as sounding "very smooth" and had excellent pick-up.

Quote:
Here are a few details visible on these newest spy images of the upcoming vehicle:
  • Mahindra XUV500-ish radiator grille
  • Blinkers integrated in the head-lamp cluster as well as on the front fenders
  • Massive front bumper with a huge, square central air dam featuring honeycomb mesh
  • Apollo tyres wrapping what look like stylish 15-inch, 10-spoke alloys
  • Funnily enough, the front wheel of the car features steel rim, while the rear gets alloys
  • Tail-door mounted spare wheel
  • Stepping pad with rubber cladding underneath the tail-gate
  • Stepping boards on both sides
  • Body coloured door handles
  • Roof rails
  • High-mount LED stop lamps peeping through the rear windscreen
  • Simplistic, vertically stacked tail-lamp cluster, which appears to be non-LED

I think this is my next vehicle subject to the engine specifications, availability of Airbag at least for the front passengers and ABS. Any idea regarding the launch time?

Li'l birdie says that Mahindra is planning to launch the Supro in September / October. No AMT option initially.

Isn't that a very "girlie" name for a SUV which is supposed to have a macho image? I can immediately associate that name with the Toyota Supra. And is the delay in AMT launch because of failing to meet the targeted FE (it was discussed earlier on this thread)?

I still don't get it. After testing for almost years, Mahindra finally launches a ridiculously expensive top-of-the-line automatic Scorpio. Yet again, they have a chance to knock off their rivals with an under 9 lakhs AMT vehicle, and they won't do it with the Supro. They could just replace the Quanto with this, price it to be hit an OTR around 9.5L. Trust me, it would create an even greater buzz than the Creta. Knowing Mahindra, they won't!

That's a great news, indeed! I was waiting for this vehicle for a long time.

Quote:
Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s biggest SUV maker, is all set to unveil its latest creation, the mystery SUV known by the code name U301 and widely speculated to carry the name Supro.

The Supro U301 has been seen multiple times on the road and has been reported by many as looking a bit like a high-end Sumo in terms of proportions. Let’s hope that in terms of looks and refinement, it does better than the Sumo.

The U301 was initially supposed to be a successor to the Bolero, but apparently the Mahindra management decided the two were distinct enough to be maintained in parallel.

Mahindra has brought out some odd-looking SUVs, particularly the Quanto, which looks a bit like it’s missing some parts from the backside. However, going by the shapes of the test vehicles, the U301 seems decently proportioned.

But if you think it’s going to look like yet another SUV, you’re in for a surprise. The U301 is a cross between the SUV shape (think the Mahindra Xylo) and the ‘Jeep’ shape (think of the Scorpio and Bolero.)

The SUV U301 will be wider than the Sumo, and is supposed to fit the ‘compact SUV’ market. It’s length is supposed to be less than 4 meters, which will help keep taxes, and prices, low.

However, the biggest attraction of the U301 will be its price. It’s supposed to be priced below the Scorpio, whose price starts at around Rs 10 lakhs on road.

If the U301 manages to be similarly priced as the Quanto (starting around Rs 8.2 lakhs on road), then we do have some serious competition for the entry-level SUV market.

However, one of the things to be kept in mind is that the person who would buy an Ertiga is not the guy who is going to be the target consumer for the Mahindra U301. The U301 will look rough, and less refined, compared to the soft looks of an Ertiga, or even the Ford EcoSport, which is why we initially called it a cross between an SUV and a Scorpio.

Many consider the Scorpio to be too ‘untamed’ for domestic use (in terms of looks) and the U301 will continue to exhibit that non-domestic look.

re: Next-generation Mahindra Bolero? NAMED: Mahindra TUV300! EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 6.90 lakhs

This ladder frame UV will weight a minimum of 1.7 tonne? Oh and a peace loving mDove engine with 90 hp to pull it.

M&M: Now that it is rumored that the DI has become a BS4(source:thar website, DI model prices listed for metros too), give us rural folks the Bolero with that engine again and you will get your cash box ringing for the next 5 years at least.

Here you go! The Supro or the Bolero replacement or whatever shows off its rear a bit more.

The wraparound C-pillar of the first pic is similar to that of the Quanto though.

The rear looks good with a proper wraparound D pillar and the spare tyre.
Also the light front and back looks chunky. Hope Mahindra doesn't mess it up with bugs bunny tooth or something.

Anyway there is only so much you can mess with a boxy design.
