Re: 2014 Ford Fiesta Facelift : A Close Look

Took a TD of the new Ford Fiesta. Loved the looks of the car. Below are my observations
  • A bit heavy clutch.
  • Strong back action from the clutch and violent response if we release the clutch quick!
  • Nice EPS
  • Lovely Dials
  • Stiff ride, but still NOT bone jarring
  • Eager to revv.
  • The engine note is LOUD especially after revving up the engine
  • LOVELY braking - good bite and the car (as a whole) comes to a halt quickly. There is no front heavy & rear stepping out feeling.
  • The gear shift needs effort.

Some of these items were so pronounced right after a Ciaz TD.

Display Car!

Wow, the black looks absolutely gorgeous! Lovely color indeed!!!

On a different note, spotting a Fiesta on our roads has become something like spotting a supercar! Not sure if I've to feel happy or sad about it.

Still can't digest the back. :( The front looks absolutely gorgeous though!

Swiftnfurious - any notes on the interiors and back-seat comfort?

I didn't sit at the back, so can NOT comment. I actually didn't check out interiors also much. Though the cluster / console is stylish, I can't recollect those feeling premium (it's probably the shade). But I love the power window switches.

And regarding the back seat space, it's NOT very bad. Last time I had checked it out, it felt decent. I could manage myself tight behind my own driving position - mind you, I am 6'2". The ride quality should be good as well.

Edit:: Honestly, I was a bit disappointed after the TD. My expectations were much higher after reading a lot of reviews. I suddenly felt a lot of points to be over rated. OR probably the Ciaz just set the standards high that Fiesta fell short. What impressed me the most was the braking in the Fiesta.

It would be quite useful to know on which all parameters Ciaz scores over Fiesta. Even if explained on another thread, its repetition here is requested

Re: 2014 Ford Fiesta Facelift : A Close Look

I see from the website that Ford has revised the pricing. 50 to 60k hike across variants. Almost 61k for Titanium and it also crosses the 10 lakh road tax slab now. Oops!

For those in cities like Bangalore and Chennai where the road tax is much higher for vehicles costing more than 10 lakhs, this puts a further dampener on sales.

Look at the prices for different cities for the Fiesta!

Already the sales are low, with this hike IMHO, nothing great will happen whatever Ford does hereon.

PS: Prices taken from their website.

Re: 2014 Ford Fiesta Facelift : A Close Look

Fact is that prices of cars have gone up across the board from beginning of the year. Discontinuation of excise rebate is the prime reason.

If the point is that Fiesta sales will pick up if the price remains low, that in my view has already proven itself wrong. In any case, the price order in its category cars largely has remained unchanged even after the hike, so the competitiveness is still intact. IMHO, Fiesta is not the product to be sold on initial pricing alone. It will be a reasonable seller only if strengths are recognized.

  • Ride quality - Ciaz scores better. Fiesta's ride is stiffer and especially noticeable while going thru bad roads
  • Gear shift - Ciaz is better and Fiesta's require effort to slot it.
  • Space - Naturally, Ciaz.
  • Plastics - The beige and brown shade feels really good.
  • Cabin Noise - Ciaz was much more silent than Fiesta while revved hard
  • Peppiness - Ciaz felt a lot peppier.
  • I could NOT crave thru corners, but Fiesta should win the game.
  • Brakes - Fiesta trumps Ciaz, though Ciaz is NOT bad. The feel is too good in the Fiesta.
  • I have NOT done a variant-to-variant comparo on features; but Ciaz felt extremely VFM.
  • While Fiesta's doors are H-E-A-V-Y, Ciaz's is NOT tinny. It's decently solid, except the boot. As I wrote somewhere else, it felt like aluminium foil Vs the doors.

Thanks swiftnfurious, seems fair. It places both on them close at par. Perhaps if steering and outright built quality are taken as parameters too then a clearer order is likely to emerge. Also not admirable is just one airbag in mid-level variant of Ciaz.

Re: 2014 Ford Fiesta Facelift : A Close Look

Though this isn't a sedan and not having anything to do with this thread directly but still sharing this below information.

The Fiesta was the No.1 selling small car in Europe again last year. Customers purchased 308,999 Fiestas in Europe in 2014, making it the top-selling small car in Europe for the third year running.

In February, the Cologne plant will increase Fiesta production by 300 units a day to 1,850 vehicles, and six additional weekend shifts have been scheduled in January and February.

1850 vehicles a day is impressive.
