Hero MotoCorp mulls entry into 4-wheeler market

Indian 2-wheeler major, Hero MotoCorp is considering an entry into the 4-wheeler market. The Delhi-based company has expressed its intentions of building cars and commercial vehicles.

The company's long-term plans include a foray into the production of 4-wheelers. If the plans materialise, Hero MotoCorp will join global giants like Honda, Suzuki and BMW as successful manufacturers of 2-wheelers as well as 4-wheelers.

However, it could be a long wait before any concrete steps are taken in this direction. The company is aware that the development of 4-wheelers is a complicated process and the market is very competitive.

At present, Hero MotoCorp is focusing on improving local product development. The company which was known formerly as Hero Honda, has unveiled a slew of new products in the recent past. These include the Hastur 650 cc and HX250R 250 cc motorcycles and the Leap and RnT scooters. It is also increasing its production capacity in the country by setting up more production facilities in various states.

The company is also expanding its presence in global markets with the addition of regional offices in various countries.

Re: Hero MotoCorp mulls entry into 4-wheeler market

The best they can do is come up with a nano rival.
IMO they shouldnt target anything higher than that.

On a lighter note, the car will get new stickers every 6 months, and Hero will sell it as all new.
And the car will be named <Car Name> +, <car name> pro, Car name pro+ etc etc

+1
Also, we'll have more super-preachy, patriotic TV ads where a guy rejects an overseas job opportunity to "serve" India by driving around in a 107 km/L car.

Re: Hero MotoCorp mulls entry into 4-wheeler market

They ditched Honda JV in 2009/2010. Since then they weren't able to develop a single two wheeler engine. Now they are planning to foray into 4 wheelers. With what? with Two Karizma engines placed sided by side ?

Before going to press, they should have looked back on what they have actually developed in house. Nothing. The new Hero engines haven't been launched. I don't think they will Launch them.

If there is one company, which hasn't achieved anything despite having tremendous amount of liquid cash, then it has to be Hero. Wrong name chosen for the company too.

If they couldn't make a two wheeler engine in 5 years, How many years will they take to make a 4 wheeler engine where everything is copy protected so hard. Buying engines?

Honda clearly said that they will not share any engines after 2014. Still they bargained and are using the same engines. The Newly launched Karizma is with the same engine from Honda with minor tweaks and more slimmer front tyre [More Mileage.. ]. The story is same with CBZ extreme which costs a whopping 10K more than a Unicorn [In our state]. Why they charge premium when a better vehicle is available for 10K less? They never corrected it. Neither they will.

They are best at doing stickering jobs. They should go ahead and launch a Designer sticker shops in each and every showroom. They have achieved a lot here And this is the area where they can foray Blindly

Re: Hero MotoCorp mulls entry into 4-wheeler market

Would this be a feasible option for them ? Everyday we read that automobile makers complaining of losses and stopping productions. Is this a good time for a leading two wheeler manufacturer to step into a new domain with so much of competition ? No doubt they have very reliable bikes selling in high numbers , will they be able to create the same magic in 4 wheeler segment too ?
