So the Mumbai dealers were right by committing Sept delivers for booking made month back, while Delhi dealers were unknowingly taking bookings with under 1mnth delivery! Shows lack of communication from VW to dealers.

Yes... so the price remains the same I guess? Which is great!

Re: Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

If VW had only included the central armrest along with the rear AC vent (present in the Vento and Rapid) at least for the Comfortline and Highline variants, this would have been an excellent facelift overall.

Regardless, I am glad that they have paid attention to the feedback from the users and critics and have included several essential features which should have actually been a part of the original package. Like the dual barrel headlamps, dead pedal, rear head restraints etc.

Re: Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

Great pricing by Volkswagen. The base petrol starts at 5 lakhs and the GT models are both 8 lakhs ex-showroom. No MT option for the TSI is disappointing but sort of expected given the dismal sales.

Let's hope they do something substantial to the GT models in so far as cosmetic changes are concerned. Machine finished alloys and the GT badges are way too subtle for a special model.

A 1.27 lakh premium over the Petrol makes it more expensive then other diesel cars in the segment. I know the engine should be better than the others and airbags abs are standard but 7+ lakhs for base polo TDI. May be just me but am not very convinced. For a lakh more the ambiente fiesta can be had (similar features) may be similar driving experience (yet to drive new polo).

Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but these are "Introductory Prices". Extended Warranty on TSI is already being offered.

Cheers,

Exactly! Why would you spend a lakh more for the Fiesta with 'similar' features and 'similar' dynamics when you get the Polo for a lakh cheaper and a better engine output.

Food for thought.

Re: Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

Apart from the slightly higher tune of the engine, what would be the differences between the regular diesel Polo Highline and the Polo GT TDI?

Are there any 'real' feature upgrades, or is the difference mostly cosmetic?

Nice pricing by VW.

Here is ACI' first drive report of the 2014 Polo Diesel.

It’s really smooth when you start it up, the gravelly note of the earlier engine gone, the engine pulls cleanly from 1200rpm and torque flows smoothly all the way up to 4000rpm. You can spin the engine faster, to 5000rpm, too, but power begins to tail off. The motor takes its time to respond, but what’s nice is that there is no steep step up in power anywhere in the powerband, just a strong surge. The clutch isn’t the lightest around either, but VW’s slick gearbox makes changing gears a treat too; so, in traffic, the new VW Polo does quite well.

This new 89bhp engine, however, does its best work once the roads open up. Acceleration is strong and the Polo gathers pace rapidly when the engine is kept spinning in its midrange. The 0-100kph sprint takes 13.08seconds (claimed) and this means overtaking slower cars is effortless.

The new VW Polo also gets an altered suspension. There’s a bit more weight in the steering wheel and the suspension now is much better at tackling poor roads. There’s more than enough compliance at low speeds and the suspension doesn’t crash through potholes like the earlier one did. The set-up, in fact, is very similar to the earlier Polo 1.6 TDI, but that also means it feels a bit ‘loose’ at higher speeds in a straight line and a bit skittish when cornered hard as well. VW has also improved the brakes. You now need to exert less effort when you want to stop quickly, which does give you a bit more confidence.

I am impressed with the pricing of the GT Models, definitely worth the wait. Hope the pricing in Mumbai is the same or less than ex-Delhi

Re: Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

Good move by Volkswagen, but I still think that they are still slightly overpricing their models. But more than the pricing they should now get something fresh and new in the market; the Polo is an old workhorse now! I would be more interested if they bring the Golf or some other nice SUV upto 15L...

Re: Summary of changes: 2014 VW Polo

Just went through the Polo eBrochure uploaded on the VW India portal.

Here are my observations on the 2014 Polo (TDI - Highline) compared to GT TDI:

1. Spare wheel is a 14" Steel Rim on the 2014 Polo, while its a 15" Estrada on GT.

2. MID on 2014 Polo is a Monochrome while the earlier Polo was Red.

3. 2014 Highline TDI weighs in at 1158kg while the GT TDI is 1156kg. Something does not add up here, not sure what!!

4. Autocar Performance data reports the 2014 Polo 1.5 TDI hits 0-100 km/hr dash in just over 13 seconds, while the GT does it around 3 seconds quicker.

5. Front bumper of the 2014 Polo that houses the number plate is slightly different from the earlier Polo.

6. Ground clearance of the 2014 Polo is 165mm while the earlier Polo (&GT) was 168mm.

7. Height of the 2014 Polo is 1469mm while the Old Polo (&GT) was 1453mm.

The only changes/additions that I will probably look at updating my GT will be:

- L Shaped rear head rest
- Dead Pedal
- Ambient Lighting

Probably, the new steering will be a great add on to my GT but I honestly doubt if this would be an easy swap.

OT - Now with the 1.5 TDI under the bonnet, Cross Polo suddenly feels Awesome !!
