Re: New Toyota Fortuner caught on test in Thailand

The front quarter view of the new Fortuner reminds me of the VW Touareg. No?

Re: New Toyota Fortuner caught on test in Thailand

Since the Fortuner is based on the Hilux truck and if the 2015/16 hilux truck front is anything to go by, the Fortuner would look something like this!
I think this face would make it come in line with more 'contemporary-looking' competition. It's a much more grown up fascia with that Landcruiser-esque grill, which makes the already imposing front, even more muscle.
But, then too, those hideous interiors(fortuner owners excuse me) need to be comprehensively updated.
But dare i say, those headlights smell of a certain Honda CR-V.

PS: Even those alloys look similar to the spypic posted above.

I hope they address weak points of the current Fortuner, namely the basic interiors, stiff ride & weak brakes. Take care of these and we're talking of the best 25 lakh SUV in the business.
I too wish they do that but the problem is as soon as they do the above, it would be the best 30 lac SUV and the best 25 lac SUV.

Re: New Toyota Fortuner caught on test in Thailand

I think this is going the Safari way. An ageless design is about to get ruined.

The butch look of the current-gen Fortuner is unmatched. Just like the first-gen (in India) Endeavour had real butchy looks, long large SUV it was, but the facelift ruined it.

And are the tyres getting skinnier, because that's what it looks like from the pics.

Even if they don't do, it will still be, going by Toyota's history. So it's better that they do change these and make it 30L!

Hope the pricing remains sane when they launch this one

I am almost 100% sure that they would jack up the prices quite a bit. I am expecting a price at least similar to the Santa fe. 26 lakh for 4*2. The new corolla has also become quite expensive but atleast it was given quite an extensive refresh. I expect something similar with the toyota fortuner and if they inject some freshness into it people will still pay 30L + for this car.

Sorry if I sound stupid, but why is this being called the 2016 Toyota Fortuner? Will it take so long for Toyota to test and launch it?

Re: New Toyota Fortuner caught on test in Thailand

Be prepared for some Innova-like milking on the pricing front! 28.xxL+ ex-showroom is a given for this one! Heck when we bought our 2WD MT Fortuner (the least expensive one), we ended up adding Front-rear skirtings, DRL's, Side claddings and other such accessories from the dealer which are almost like a norm for this car, by the time we put it on the road even though registered in Panvel (MH-46), we still ended up spending 28L on the car.

If they up the anti with their new Fortuner, thats when they will have room to make improvements in the Innova. What they need:
- Rear Disc Brakes
- Additional Safety Equipment (I know its too much to ask from them, they already give as many as 2 airbags in a 7-seater car! :O) *pun-intended
- A totally redesigned interior and additional kit.
- Heavily redesigned ICE with SAT-NAV. The current one is garbage.
- Reworked suspension set up to cure that stiff and bouncy ride.

Not a lot needs doing apart from this, they take care of these things, they surely will have an unquestionable, well-accomplished, brilliantly well-rounded SUV within the 30L range and probably replacement for ours next year.

Regards,

Add to this a rear LSD and we are talking of a perfect offroader. But alas.. that will be asking too much from the big T.

2016 Toyota Fortuner caught Testing in Thailand

2016 fortuner caught testing in Thailand. Mid 2015 launch in Thailand and end 2015/early 2016 launch in India seems feasible.

Re: New Toyota Fortuner caught on test in Thailand

Toyota is known for focusing on the utility and durability of its products while keeping the construction of its vehicles as simple as possible.

That's the reason 90% of its 4WD vehicles are still LOC design and with rear live axle and IFS.

Toyota Fortuner will get a new shape, as its visible from the spy photos, but retains the performance and the bulletproof reliability as the Toyota benchmark.

Toyota also needs to move on and make changes in design while keeping in mind the ever increasing demands of its customers.

OEMs make changes in the vehicles as region specific depending on the customer's demands and profile to particular region.

For example, 4Runner in north America lost its shape in between and now its back to it Butch shape. I guess similarly Fortuner's shape will evolve rather than a revolutionary change.

Expect better features in 2016 Fortuner
