Brochure scans of the Hilux Revo are out.

The Hilux Revo gets 7 airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Traction Control, Downhill Assist Control, VSC, among others. Other features are 17-inch all-terrain wheels, 60:40 Rear Split seat, Push-button start, Automatic climate control, Rear AC vent, Keyless entry, etc.

It will be powered by 3 engines: a 2.8-liter GD diesel engine in two tuning states – 177 hp and 420 Nm and 177 hp and 450 Nm – and a 2.4-liter diesel engine tuned to make 150 hp and 400 Nm and 153 hp and 343 Nm.
The 2.7-liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine is retained with outputs at 122 hp and 245 Nm.

I hope Toyota will offer all these in the Indian Fortuner as well. At least the top end 4X4 should get 7 airbags, traction control and the other safety goodies.

I hope they will not chuck out the bigger 2.8L diesel for India and offer us only the 2.4

From the pics I can see both M/T & A/T are 6 speed units which is great! The short stubby manual shifter looks much better then the A/T one.

Eight Generations in, the Toyota Hilux is Redefining "Tough"

Since the Hilux first hit dealerships in 1968, over 16 million have been sold in more than 180 countries and regions. Over its seven-generation history, the quality, durability and reliability of the Hilux have earned the model a diehard fanbase and a legendary reputation. Simply put, everyone knows the Hilux is tough.

But what does "tough" really mean? That's the question we at Toyota asked ourselves when faced with the challenge of creating the eighth-generation Hilux.

We realized that toughness doesn't just come from the vehicle; it comes from the people inside. Whether you're battling your way up a muddy track or stuck in traffic, reducing the stress of driving is just as important as withstanding the elements. That's why the new Hilux, while improving on the model's characteristic ruggedness and performance, redefines toughness by being more occupant-focused and easier to drive than ever before.

To truly understand what our customers expect from us and the challenges they face on a daily basis, our development teams travel the globe, getting direct feedback from customers and driving on a wide variety of different roads to get a feel for different usage conditions. To gain inspiration for the eighth-generation Hilux, the development team drove in conditions ranging from rough, muddy forests to deserts with temperatures exceeding 50°C and flooded roads in the rainy season. Sometimes they came up against even harsher conditions than expected, which brought home the need to develop an even tougher Hilux.

The development process also reflected invaluable feedback received directly from Hilux drivers. Some wished they could make long transcontinental trips without worrying about running out of fuel. Others described how hard it is to stay alert and drive safely during grueling long-distance journeys with extended stretches of rough driving. Yet another, who uses their Hilux for forest maintenance work and frequently speaks via radio with the police and fire department, explained how a quiet cabin is essential for communication.

This led the development team to conclude that the new Hilux should not only be tougher but should also reduce stress as much as possible. Above and beyond conventional ideas of toughness, the eighth-generation Hilux boasts ride comfort that makes long, tough drives less grueling, a quiet cabin that allows communication in any conditions, and enhanced cruising range thanks to improved fuel efficiency.

As explained by Hiroki Nakajima, the executive chief engineer behind the Hilux (and also a managing officer of Toyota Motor Corporation): "Our entire development concept was centered on 'redefining toughness'. We aimed to make the new Hilux 'tougher' based on a much broader interpretation of that word. The message we want to deliver to our customers is embodied in our slogan for the vehicle: 'A New Era for Pickup. Every Inch a Hilux.'"

The Hilux pioneers a "new era" of easy-to-drive, stress-free toughness. At the same time, the truck is "every inch a Hilux", and can be relied on to provide the legendary ruggedness, performance, responsiveness and safety expected from the model.

Two apparent negatives I could make out from CarAdvice's video are

1. No rear disc breaks (Still comes with drums)

2. Rear suspension is still leaf springs, albeit longer.

The competition, especially Nissan's Navara now gets 5-Point multi link rear suspension.

We have to actually see the real world reviews before jumping the gun though.

The pic Karan has posted is the Australian version of the Hilux whereas the one being discussed is the one launched in Thailand. You can notice the different alloy wheel design too.

The unveiling of the 2016 Fortuner could happen on July 28th, according to a report by IAB.

But it will come to Indian shores only by next fiscal.

The next generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner would likely appear before the Innova, several reports have stated. Bolstering these reports are Toyota officials, who refuse to put a timeline to the new Innova’s unveiling, but confidently acknowledge that the second generation Fortuner is around the corner.

Speaking to the media at the launch of the Hilux, Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., said – “Please wait for a few more months for new Fortuner”.

According to sources, Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) plans to have an “important press conference” on July 28, 2015, which could see the wraps come off the new Hilux-based SUV.

Post its Thai launch, the new Fortuner will launch in India in 2016. The Indian market introduction of the new Fortuner is likely not before the next financial year though (post March 2016).

The 2016 Fortuner will essentially be more safe, according to Hiroki Nakajima, Managing Officer of Toyota Motor Corporation.

The new Fortuner, much like the Hilux, will use Toyota’s new FIRM technology (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism). This not only increases the safety aspect, but also delivers a pliant ride across all sorts of terrain, Mr. Nakajima explained in a presentation. What’s more, where the current Fortuner gets 2 airbags, the next generation model will receive 7 airbags, including a driver knee airbag.

I am not very impressed with the interiors. I felt that they would seem a bit more upmarket. But now moving towards a more odd, plasticky and somewhat commercial look. Especially with the square display and the oddball aircon blowers

If the Hilux interiors are anything to go by, I'm thoroughly disappointed with the new Fortuner. The exterior looks good, but the interior just doesn't cut it for a proposed 35L SUV. But then again, the exterior design was always good. The interior was the major downside. In comparison, the new Endeavour has a much plusher cabin. Don't know if it's too much to expect Toyota to do something about it now :(

Please understand that TMC has made tremendous efforts to separate the twins (Hilux & Fortuner) from each other. There are too many external and internal similarities between the Hilux and the Fortuner. Also internally between Fortuner and Innova.

TMC has made sure that the all the three vehicles in their all new designs will not be similar externally or internally.

What you see on Hilux's interior will be totally different in the Fortuner. The similarities will be only on sharing the platform and nothing in looks.

Hilux has been facing heat from Ford Ranger, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200 for a long time and it was time for Hilux to bring in the change in terms of looks and comfort and features, and that's what TMC did.

Pajero sport/Nativa are based upon L200
Ford Endy/Everest are based upon Ranger
Chevy Trailblazer/Isuzu MuX are based upon Chevy Colorado/D max

Similarly Fortuner/Innova/Hilux share the platform, but this time all three will not be sharing the similarities in terms of looks.
