My feelings exactly!
The hexagonal grille was a class apart. It had character and elegance far superior to this run-of-the-mill slatted grille. Moreover, this new grille seems to be the biggest contributor to reminding people of other cars like the Ciaz. The hexagonal grille was the design element which finally made me think of Hyundais as 'handsome'. Just my opinion

Is this the way car design is evolving? By blindly aping each other That's it! I am headed to the used car showroom.

Hyundai should have changed the tail-lamp design, may be taking a cue from Elantra and modifying it a little bit. Barring the front grill, design looks the same in every angle and this could be the biggest worry for a buyer, as competitors (City & Ciaz) have completely revamped their models with better design than their respective predecessors. Looks like there are minimal interior changes, while also keeping the same length and wheelbase.

If this is the case, I doubt if it can dent the sales of City & Ciaz!

The fact is, Hyundai is facing the heat, after Maruti, the most trusted company of the middle class Indians, came out with Ciaz, that too with a very competent pricing.
That said and done, Honda City is also a very viable option, hence Hyundai was bound to give a new lease of life to its verna, yes it does look good, I can see a bit of corolla altis in it, and personally I'm happy that its looks more like altis, as it gives a mature face to the vehicle. I just hope changes arent limited to the exterior and interior also gets some refinement and touches. :-)

Even as Hyundai gears up for the launch of the Verna facelift (known as the Accent in some international markets and Solaris in some others) in India, the next generation Accent has been spied for the first time in its home market. The heavily camouflaged car was spotted in the parking lot of a building somewhere in South Korea.

The camouflage does its job well by covering up most of the car's lines, but the overall proportions are somewhat reminiscent of the current car. The length/wheelbase of the car is believed to be slightly more, in order to ensure better interior space.

The hexagonal chrome grill with horizontal slats (similar to the ones seen on larger Hyundai sedans like the Sonata LF) is visible through the camouflage, as are larger tail lamps. The rear number plate seems to have been moved to the bumper. It would be safe to assume the next generation Verna would sport the company's Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language. Some pictures:

Facelift Verna spied , now in red.

Hyundai’s C-segment sedan features completely redesigned front fascia with new twin chrome slat grill, larger & sharper headlamps with projector lights, well pronounced fog lamps with LED DRLs and refurbished bumper. Rear end of Hyundai Verna facelift gets slightly tweaked bumper with integrated reflectors & black lower lip, new chrome slat over number plate recess and brushed up tail lamps lit by LED lights. Apart from these, only other notable change in exterior of new Hyundai Verna is new alloy wheel design.

Is it just me or does the front grille look like it's from the previous generation Toyota Corolla? That said, IMO the facelift definitely improves the looks of the Verna.

Heard from one of the showroom that production has already stopped for the old model and they are just selling off the inventory now. So we can expect the official announcement anytime soon.

I just hope that Hyundai has tweeked the rear suspension on this one and not just made mere cosmetic changes.

The Verna's rear suspension is way too soft for highway crusing.
It makes the rear bounce when there are rouch patches of road.
This is noticed especially on the highways while crusing above 70-80 kmph.

Except for the current gen. fluidic design, the Verna has always been an ugly car.

Looking at the next gen. pics, it seems like the Verna is getting back to its roots. The front grill looks like that on an eon. After launching the good-looking new i20, Hyundai was more than likely to release something hideous like this, given their design heritage.

Is than an Etios or a Verna :P No offence, but the design looks like it'll make the existing Verna owners feel proud. Hope Hyundai is not doing what M&M did with the Scorpio.

I love the way the new car looks. The front looks heavily inspired by the Ciaz for some reason. Also, the rear doesn't seem to gel with the overall design now.

Hyundai has a knack of doing this. Facelifting an existing model as a stop-gap till the new generation is readied for launch in India. IIRC, the hideous Verna-transform was launched similarly, a year or two prior to the Fluidic Verna making an entry.

Now it's official on Feb 16 launch as per Autocar India

Hyundai will launch a facelifted version of its popular midsize car, the Verna, on February 16. Appreciated for its 'fluidic' looks and feature-rich cabin, the Verna took Hyundai to the top of its class back when it was launched in 2011. Hyundai will now update the car for the second time (it carried out a mild update in August 2013 where the suspension was re-tuned) since its launch, in an effort to keep it fresh.

Almost identical to the facelifted 'Solaris' sold in Russia, the car will get an all-new nose that is both longer and 'pointier' looking than that of the current car. The new headlights are more elongated, the new grille is wider and the 'inverted comma' like fogs also get LED daytime-running lights. The new grown up look is nice, but some of the cohesiveness of the earlier design has been lost. The rear of the car is similar to the current one, however, with the car in Russia getting LEDs in the tail-lights; something we could get here in India too.

Under the skin, there aren't likely to be too many changes. Though Hyundai insiders say they have worked on improving the power steering. The current car's steering is a bit too light and Hyundai has apparently made changes to the steering linkages and the electrical assistance system to enable the car to deliver better feel to the driver.

On the inside, materials and trim are expected to change, but the design is likely to remain unchanged. Expect only a small correction in prices.
