Mercedes-Benz has launched the GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC priced at Rs.69.60 lakhs (ex-showroom Mumbai).
Key Points:
- The GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC is powered by a turbocharged 1,991cc, 4-cylinder engine producing 265kW (355 bhp) @ 6,000 RPM and 450 Nm of max torque @ 2,250-5,000 RPM mated to the AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission. It gets a sports suspension from AMG too
- Power is transmitted to 100% front wheels or 50:50 to all four wheels by the AMG 4MATIC technology
- 100 km/h from a standstill can be achieved in 4.8 seconds and it hits an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h
- The GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC is the eighth AMG offering in India after the SLS, G63, ML63, GL63, SLK 55, E63 and CLA 45. It is also Mercedes-Benz India's ninth product in 2014
- Active Parking Assist feature makes its way in this SUV
- Safety kit includes 7 airbags, ABS+EBD, 3-stage ESP, Attention Assist and AMG high-performance braking system
Mr. Eberhard Kern, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, at the presentation:
Some profile shots of this high-performance SUV/ Crossover:
The front bumper with the signature AMG 'twin blade' radiator grill and the new front grill with 'AMG' lettering distinguish it from its lesser sibling - the GLA:
Notice the black wheel arches and the matte silver inserts on the sides to give it an SUV-ish look:
Bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRL's come in as standard:
One more look at the front splitter. Notice the red inserts in the grill:
LED tail-lamps:
19" twin 5-spoke alloy wheels finished in titanium grey:
Black side mirrors with red inserts:
Decals on the side. Don't look tasteful:
Aluminum roof rails:
The most powerful, production 2-litre engine. But wait...what's this? No hydraulic bonnet opener:Shockked:
Quad mufflers integrated in the matte black rear diffuser. The AMG Performance exhaust system is equipped with variably adjustable exhaust flaps for a sportier sound track:
The badge says it all:
Torque distribution spread from 100% to the front wheels to a 50:50 ratio by the AMG 4MATIC technology:
'TURBO AMG' lettering on the front fenders:
Interiors of the GLA 45 AMG 4MATIC; look familiar?
3-spoke nappa leather AMG steering wheel with paddle shifts:
Light controls and parking brake carried forward from the GLA:
A sportier instrument cluster. Top speed marked till 320 vs 260 in the regular GLA:
Sporty drilled pedals in brushed stainless steel:
Electronically adjustable seats with memory function for 3 drivers:
GPS navigation comes as standard:
SLS AMG style air-vents:
Gear shifter located in the more conventional position unlike the GLA:
AMG front door sill panel:
Quite a large, illuminated glovebox:
Grab handles with a light too:
Rear AC vents will keep you cool at the back when you aren't behind the wheel:
Panoramic sunroof:
Red seat belts:
Wasn't C63 also part of the AMG line-up in India . Or was it special import ?
Quite pricey I am afraid. The prices in the luxury segment are climbing steadily with each launch.
The regular GLA is sold out over here. Any idea on the number of units on offer here?

Hope the decal on the side is not a standard fitment. It looks awful.
- The decals look el cheapo. What were they smoking?
- No hydraulic strut, and no cladding? :Shockked: If not for the NVH levels, at least it would have hidden the underside from view...

The C63 AMG wasn't officially launched in India like all the other AMG cars.

:thumbs up Pricey for sure. I'd still pick the CLA 45 AMG over this on any given day for its sheer visual appeal and obviously better aerodynamics. The GLA 45 on the other hand looks confused - a car which is neither a hatchback nor an SUV but called cross-over to make it fancy.
Sorry, no idea about the number of units sold of the GLA.

It doesn't appear in the official brochure though. Hopefully, it won't make it to the road version. But I really wonder what is Mercedes-Benz up to: Even with the A and B-Class Edition 1 they stuck on some really
cheap looking vinyl on the side of the car. It would have been acceptable on a Rs.4 lakh hatchback but on a premium lifestyle product...:Frustrati

One of the online video review (I think Autocar) mentioned that the sticker job is an optional extra.
Though pricey, compared to the CLA AMG I feel this maybe a better option for our roads.

Pneumatic struts that operate on compressed gas (nitrogen) not hydraulic.

I think it was -

Frankly I think this is pointless, the GLA. It may make sense for someone who wants it as a daily drive, for which I think the CLA will be too low.

The C63 AMG doesn't appear on Mercedes-Benz India's website (unlike the discontinued SLS which still appears) nor could I find any official launch event for the car. No doubt the car was sold in India and was unveiled at some dealerships by a company official but it wasn't "officially" launched the way other AMG cars made their way to India.
