MINI has launched the all new MINI 3-Door & 5-Door in India today. The 3-Door is priced at Rs 31.85 lakh while the 5-Door is priced at Rs 35.20 Lakh (both prices all India Ex-Showroom).
High points:- This is the 3rd generation of MINIs.
- The 3-Door is 98 mm longer, 44 mm wider and 7 mm taller than the 2nd gen car. It's got a 28 mm longer wheelbase too.
- Both cars will be brought into India as direct imports (CBU).
- At the moment, both the 3-Door and 5-Door are only sold in the Cooper D (diesel) guise, with the turbo petrol coming in a few months.
- The Cooper D engine is the 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo diesel. It produces 114 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 270 Nm @ 1750 rpm.
- Transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed automatic.
- The turbo petrol MINI Cooper S 3-Door will be available across India from the 1st quarter of 2015. It will be powered by a 4-cylinder MINI TwinPower engine that delivers 189 bhp of power & 280 Nm of torque.
- MINI is offering 11 colour options. Two non-metallic (Pepper White & Volcano Orange) and 9 metallic colours (Moonwalk Grey, Blazing Red, Electric Blue, British Racing Green, Iced Chocolate, Thunder Grey, Deep Blue, White Silver and Midnight Black).
- The aforementioned body colours are combined with the "Aspen White" or "Jet Black" roof

A look back at MINI's history
Thread moved from the Assembly Line to the Indian Car Scene. Thanks for sharing!
Wish the mini was manufactured in India. The price point is so high to consider this as a car and i cant imagine the depreciation right outside the door. I love Mini's and i think they are exactly what i want to drive in and around the city and outside city for various reason.
The engine is perfect for its size and it is just so comfortable to drive around. For me the price point is stopping me from enjoying this match box sized magic.
Its like an apple in the world of samsung with respect to what you can buy for 40L on road :)
Attaching a pic from Twitter of some of the optional equipment. The LED headlamps cost only 25k! I remember reading in some other thread that optional LED headlamps in the A6 cost about 1lakh.
Love the looks of the Mini & the interiors are super too! The price though is on the higher side but can't blame them. I doubt the car would have a market here even if it was CKD & a couple of lakhs lower.
Isn't the 1.5L 3cyl diesel going to power the BMW 3 series LCI too? It has just 114bhp! In a BMW? No way!

Exactly my thoughts dude. These cars are so good to drive & so sexy in terms of looks. But these cars are extraordinarily costly for us, that too just because of these cars are not made in India & taxed heavily. Hope some day we will get such cars too, made in India.
Not sure why nobody is trying such fancy cars till date in India. It will sell in good numbers for sure. Just look at bikes scenario. 10-12 years back nobody was dared to buy bike worth more than 1 Lacs barring few exceptions. Just look at scene now, people are buying bikes like Bullets, Thunderbirds, KTM, Honda CBR, Hosung, HD etc which costs in few lacs with ease. Even Bullets costing 1.5-2 Lacs sells like anything & has waiting periods. People are buying it, enjoying it. Similarly if we get car something like Mini, which is India made, looks hot, fun to drive with all gizmos & all, in attractive color options, costing 10-15 Lacs, i am sure people will buy it in numbers. Hope that day is not far for us
Nice to see so many color options. Looks fantastic!!
114 bhp sounds too low especially considering the niche segment and pricing upwards of 30 lacs.
Firstly, its sacrilege that the Mini has been launched only in diesel :Shockked:. No petrol!
When the petrol does come, it's going to be the super expensive Cooper S. Well, at least that car drives a Mini should.
40 lakhs on-the-road for the diesel gets you merely 114 BHP & 270 Nm torque (figures comparable to 10 lakh sedans). Ridiculously overpriced.
Then, a manual transmission isn't even available as an option!
They have seriously & completely botched up the strategy for this car. I'm only left wondering who actually pays the showroom operating costs.
Sorry, this one gets a massive thumbs down until they fix things.
+1.
Same strategy was followed by FIAT when they released the 500 with only the 1.3 multijet. I wonder how these companies come up with these marketing strategies. The usual corporate liner is that the higher powered variants would be released 'based on market response', but by the time the product would have lost flavour with the market.
Have seen Mini cars being used by the chauffeur-driven crowd as well, so may be they see a higher sales for diesel?

Brilliant comment. :uncontrol
I'm sorry but this car just doesn't look Mini anymore. It looks like it was designed by a kid playing with the enlarge option in the photo editor. BMW when they made the Mini one it was brilliant, A proper rebirth of a classic hero. But over the years they have taken a little too much Japanese inspiration and the cars are only getting bigger and wider. You don't have to make a car fatter with every new generation.
Coming to the new Mini one word as GTO said scarilege. Firstly it is ridiculously over priced. Secondly a 114hp diesel, seriously you think people would buy it with that just cause its a Mini and lastly why couldn't you at least offer a 8 speed automatic, come on even the Corolla offers a 7-speed automatic. Overall, seriously disappointed and I don't there will be a change of mind even when the Petrol is launched because of the price.
