Pricing of all recent Mercedes launches have been on the higher side. But that is kind of to be expected. They know they are back in the game big time with their best sellers like A, CLA, GLA and the new C class worldwide. They are now redefining the "luxury" in luxury segment. And they are out to milk it thoroughly. Moreover they are probably well short on supply of these new models that they in really no hurry to go aggressive on pricing. Will take about a year for the initial euphoria to settle down and discounts starting to flow. Wait it out if you have the patience.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

I hope that most of us who cringe at these 'stratospheric' prices understand that this is a CBU and a top end variant at that.

Come March, I'd expect the base C200 to start in the range of 34L which is about 2.5L more than the previous gen. Wanna bet??

Err, the last gen W204 C200 Avantgarde with navigation was 35L ex showroom. It wasn't 31.5L as you seem to suggest in the last 6 months at least. And don't even get me started on the diesel C220. It's was at 45L on road before discounts.

Don't bet. Pretty sure you'd lose even before the betting begins!

Did you bother reading my previous post ? I presume not.

Anyway long story short, even if you assume the car to be a fantastic package that is still quite a hefty tag for a 4-cyl C class.

Just came back from the dealer unveil of the new c class at T&T motors New Delhi.

Things I liked:
  • Drop dead gorgeous to look at. Feels properly grown up inside out. Evident more so in the back seat.
  • Goodbye Audi and BMW in interior department. The quality is just amazing and the layout beautiful to look at.
  • Gearshift moves to the steering column and frees up space in center console. Utilized well by the inclusion of the track pad.
  • Interior mood lighting looks beautiful and the center facia gets a clock which was once reserved for E class and above.
  • Paddles are made available. Should make to the CKD as well.
  • Foot brake isn't present anymore. Parking brake moves under the headlight switch.

Things I did not like.
  • Bye bye 5th alloy. Spare is a space saver and eats in to the boot space.
  • Bye bye memory seats and electric adjustment for the steering wheel. This is a big big miss in my opinion. If the CBU doesn't have it god knows if CKD would.
  • I am not a fan of the floating screen. Looks like a after thought.
  • Bye bye boot space.
  • Biggest grouse is that lack of that solid feel. Doors feel genuinely lighter in comparison to my W204. I just didn't like the lightness of it all. Mind you they still shut properly and I am sure are just as safe, just that feel is gone.

Is it a baby S? Not in my personal opinion. It's a properly grown up C out to attack it's elder brother! The E!

Importantly, should you plonk 46.5 big ones on this. If exclusivity isn't a concern then: No! Wait for the CKD to come in March and then go buy her. I am smiling that I got mine at 33!! Memory seats, electric adjustment for steering, solid feel, more direct steering (based on reports) and a full fifth tyre and alloy!

Cheers
Rohan

Top end? It is a base model decently optioned. As I stated earlier, this price should really be for a decently optioned C300, not C200.

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

I doubt if the prices will go down significantly once they move into the CKD route and bring in lower variants. Mercedes always keep safety features as standard across all variants, and there are not many comfort features they can drop for the base variant, except for the panoramic sunroof, reversing camera, climate control, and probably the Agility Select option. I won’t be surprised if a 220 CDI Avantgarde comes out with an ex-showroom price of 42-43 lakhs.

And it looks like some of the features mentioned at the launch (and various media drives) are already missing from the model on sale. Burmester sound system, memory seats, and 3-zone climate control are not mentioned in their feature-list.

Good product. Overpriced in my view. But this will set the trend. Mercedes today again commands a premium over audi and BMW since its return to quality and reliability that went missing in the last decade. It now has flair and a perfect mix of comfort and aggression.

Prices may not drop in the near future but discounts sure should come by along with other variants by later half of 2015.

Seems like Mercedes is already on the road to refreshing the new C Class. Hasn't been even a year and this! Goes to prove how the whole 'baby S class' nickname befits the C.

WOW for the Looks and a SHOCK for the price! The 134Bhp is also let-down, definitely the owners of Octavia Tsi would be grinning all the way.

This car definitely makes the Jaguar XJ at 92lakhs a complete value for money if in-case anyone had doubts earlier.

Obviously the early bird Owners will be happy about the exclusivity till they later realize they could have gotten E-Class/A6/5.

The C200 in question is the petrol motor rated at 180bhp. The diesel will definitely be the C220 rated at 170bhp. They might bring the C250 diesel (200bhp) later as well.I think Merc has a C200 diesel producing 134bhp available in the UK. Hence the confusion

Cheers

Re: 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched at Rs 40.9 lakh Ex-Delhi

The next launch from the Mercedes-Benz stable would be the C 220 CDI. The launch will take place next month in Mid Feburary.

As per the latest trend of Mercedes Benz the launch will take place in 2 diesel variants.

The first will be the lower spec C220 CDI with 16" alloy wheels , electric sun roof, and certain other cosmetic reductions. It will be priced around 38-40 lakhs ex showroom.

The second would be the top end variant which is identical to the existing C200 petrol and will have the same 17" wheels, panaromic sun roof etc. It will be priced at 42-43 lakhs ex-showroom.

The initial lots would be CBUs directly imported from Germany. The company has already imported the first lot of wheels in the country.

I personally love the rear end styling of this car. But obviously everyone has a different taste.

Suddenly the new C with it's CBU price tag seems more VFM thanks to the CLA pricing at 35 Lakhs! I think MBIL ought to keep their prices in check and not let their recent successes go to their heads.
