Nope, nothing major. Last-minute tweaks to gear ratios, injector timings, etc.

It's the same 1.05L heart, but with a slightly bigger Honeywell turbo. Hence, expect better power & torque output figures, while not compromising on fuel efficiency.

Thanks Avi! May be you should edit the original post to change the word 'flaw' to 'fine tuning'?? Flaw does bend the eye brow.

re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Tigor launched at Rs 4.7 lakhs

The media drive of the Tata Tigor is scheduled from March 15th onwards.

Introductory pricing to be a real shocker - Rs 3.99 lakhs onwards for the petrol lineup, and Rs 4.74 lakhs onwards for the diesel lineup.

To be marketed as - "A full-sized styleback sedan for the price of a hatch!"

Absolutely great pricing by Tata. I hope Team-BHP too would be a part of the media drive. In this case, I am sure there would be a first-drive report of the Tigor.

The tag-line is in similar lines to 'More car per car' from the Indica yore.

re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Tigor launched at Rs 4.7 lakhs

That kind of introductory pricing is great, but somewhat on expected lines. I think Tata have realised that they cannot afford to do a Bolt again (on the pricing front). So the prices are likely to be irresistible, at least at launch!

Another point is that the base variant may be an absolute barebones offering (in order to keep the starting price low) without even all essential features, let alone safety features. Like with the Tiago, it's the higher variants that are likely to make more sense on the Tigor.

Tigor and Zest can co-exist side by side without any issues, just like the Tiago and Bolt co-exist. Even if both happen to be sub-4m compact sedans, the Zest is clearly larger than the Tigor on all fronts - be it exterior dimensions, interior space, engines' size, layout & output.

More than the Zest & Bolt, it is the Indi__ siblings that simply have to go! The Indica & Indigo look terribly, severely out of place in an otherwise modern Tata line-up. Do gracefully retire the old workhorses before they affect your brand equity further, Tata!

Possible OT:

Nothing.

Zest will continue as the elder sibling of the Tigor, and the Zest facelift (being put through it's paces right now) will replace the current-gen car in due time.

They will be phased out soon, together with the Nano.

Possible future lineup:

1) Tiago,
2) Tigor,
3) Bolt facelift,
4) Zest facelift,
5) X451 hatch,
6) Nexon,
7) X451 sedan,
8) All-new Sumo,
9) All-new Safari,
10) Hexa,
11) Q501,
12) Q502,
13) TaMo 2-seater sports car.

That's good. Happy to see TATA being sane while other manufacturers keep redefining "VFM" price (upwards). The above prices mean a 75K increase over the hatch and is quite a decent premium considering a bump in power / torque output (even for the base variant which may not have any additional features compared to Tiago).

Going by this, we should see the top end diesel variant at ~6.75L which I guess is quite a good price considering the top end variant of other CS products are at 8L+ ex showroom. Tigor also will get some additional features as I understand (ACC etc).

Why not do a comparo with high end variants ? Even then, it's a VFM as I see it. Please see the estimated price for the high end variant - that's derived by adding 75K to the Tiago prices for the top end.

Edit: You could run through this post to see why Tiago is VFM against other similar products. Tigor, with the estimated price can only take it further.

+1.The speculated pricing is really enticing. But the pricing of XZ is the decider IMHO.

Tiago XZ diesel now costs 7.1 OTR Hyderabad & Swift Vdi costs 7.9 OTR after discounts. Though both do not match w.r.t feature-feature, the Swift is a better buy for the additional 80k.( better performance because of 4-cylinder engines), The case of the petrols is similar as well.

I wish Tata equips the Tigor with Airbags & ABS as standard across the variants. If the XZ variant is priced anywhere near the Xcent S/Ameo Trendline. Then it might not have takers. I am not comparing with the Dzire, as it is in a different league of sales figures.

The Tiago is a segment below the Swift, if I'm not mistaken. It competes with the Celerio. How do you compare it with the Swift?

About pricing, I haven't made a comparison. The new Swift is on the way and hence the discounts and it's in battle (one-sided) with the Bolt. Similarly the Swift DZire battles the Zest and not the Tigor.

Exactly. Tiago XZ diesel at that price doesn't make much sense at all.
Forget Swift VDI, one can get a fully loaded Figo Titanium with that stonker 1.5 TDCI at that price. Pay 30k more, you get 6 airbags too.

Those underpowered engines might be okay with lower variants, but the XZ, especially the diesel should get better engines for it to make sense at that price.

The fact that Tata doesn't provide full safety kit even as an option in the lower variants is another dealbreaker.

Correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Figo Titanium 1.5D comes anywhere close to 7.1L OTR. To the best of my knowledge it is much closer to 8L OTR and the Titanium+ is an addition of at least 75-80K on top of it.

So a difference of nearly a Lakh rupees is not a negligible amount at least in these segment of cars.

re: Tata Tiago-based compact sedan. EDIT: Tigor launched at Rs 4.7 lakhs

So, why don't we start comparing the prices of top end Tiago and base model of Swift and Figo then? I don't know what sources people are using, but from the respective official websites, Figo D top end is 7.4L and Swift 7.7L while Tiago is priced at 5.93L. Clearly there's enough difference in price to suggest we are comparing cars from different segments.

Value for money may be subjective. But, we could at least get the facts right:
Ex-show room prices, Delhi (Source: official webpages of manufacturers)
Tiago XZ Revotorq Diesel Rs. 577,689
Tiago XT Revotorq Diesel Rs. 522,189
SWIFT ZDI Rs. 7,46,939
SWIFT VDI Rs. 6,53,189
Ford Figo 1.5D Titanium MT Rs. 6,66,600
Ford Figo 1.5D Ambiente MT Rs. 5,99,900
